Coming from the Christian faith, as I do, I don't have a problem with religion. The only problem I have today with churches in the United States is they should pay taxes like the rest of us. If you want to be involved with the political side of things as churches and other non profit groups are so heavily today, then pay the price of admission like the rest of us. Other than that, carry on ye faithful.

I do have a problem with religion, and with the followers.

I wonder if God swims laps in the swimming pool? A nice use of the memberships' contributions, wtf. I am sure God says the same thing looking down from Mt. Olympus. I know for sure He would rather that the world's unfortunates were helped instead.

And this is the corrupted wealth of only one mortal man, the Catholic Church has been doing it for centuries. All religious organizations should be taking much more heat for their sins that go way beyond more insignificant ones.

The relatively poor parishioners in West Virginia never knew that their weekly contribution to the collection plate went for $4.6 million for the Bishop's home and $2.4 million for his travels.

No taxes, no accountability, no oversight. Until too late. A Franciscan this bishop and Osteen are not.

@Chiparlor - I have to say, in all my years of mongering, I never heard of a provider giving a customer that much cash. I have gotten small $$ value gifts from a few providers (which I appreciated), but never cold, hard cash. Shit, I've never even had civvie GFs offer to chip in for dinner. Not trying to judge or insult, but if a provider tried to give me that much cash (simply for being her customer), I'd refuse it. If she still insisted on giving her money away, I'd ask her to donate to St. Jude's (or some other charity) on my behalf. If she wanted to do something nice for me personally, a small gift or free massage would suffice. BBBJs are always appreciated too.

@njlefty - Osteen always gives me the creeps. There is something off about that guy. I'm sure something really, really sordid about him will come out one day.

God is Love, not Money.
Everything becomes about money, eventually. It's what makes the world go round. Even the most solid relationships become pretty shaky without $$. Once a religion becomes sufficiently big, it becomes a bureaucracy. At that point, you need $$ to keep it going. Just the other day, I ran into someone who urged me to "Give to God". Unfortunately, I could not; it was just after my SB visit and I was low on cash.

Some will say pointing out things like Osteen and the bishop in West Virginia are attacks on religion, but they are not. They are pointing out truths. Most of my family is Catholic, and I was aghast to learn that 140 pedophile priests were shuttled around New Jersey parishes for decades. Instead of reporting and jailing these men, they were left to prey on the children of unsuspecting parishes. Failure to act does not even begin to frame what happened. If these things don't shake one's faith to the core, they should. They did for me.

Yes God left us to be imperfect and every human is full of sin. This even goes to those that try and guide us to right from wrong. The sin of being a sexual predictor seem to be on the top of the list, and knows no religious boundaries.

It is more magnified when it falls on those that pretend to be more perfect than the rest of us.

Just like those that miss use the church's money for their own pleasure and opulence. Then go out with no guilt and ask us to repent our sins and accept the Lord into out hearts.

I really have a hard time with these two face "religious leaders", and it thrust me away from organized religion.

Bless me Lord and take my hand...so that I cause no one any pain. (I can't remember the whole prayer)

A line of scripture I thoroughly enjoy: "There is a river, whose streams shall make glad the City of God."

The strength of the river, it seems to say, makes optimism about things boundless.

It really sucks that we do not have a Jesus Christ clone. The church will truly accel when they invest in AI and Bots to run the local schools and Parish life. In the meantime, lets ask ourselves where we and the society as a whole receive our moral education? I understood the internal conflict of man and especially that of priests. I knew they were being infiltrated with closet homosexuals because society would not accept them for entirely too long. It was their escape and I always gave a young priest roughly a 50% chance of closet gay or truly called to priesthood. I accepted the teachings and the structure the church and family provided me as a child and I followed this formula with my own family. I did absolutely warn my sons about the humanity of priest and that they were just like any other stranger in this world when it came to the does and don't of personal space. The equation of a higher percentage of gay men exposed to a large population of young men was not a formula for success.

My son's were not shocked when the scandal broke in the news. They personally thanked me for my forethought and warnings.

What amazes me is that a simple average IQ human being as myself could see the car wreck occurring.

On another note, remember when the gay population started attacking the boy scouts for not always gays to be scout masters. I personally sided with the boyscouts. I honestly think your sexual preference should be open and if that sexual preference puts children at an increased risk for abuse, it should be prevented.

Child predators are only tagged that way after they have been caught. Some are much smarter than LE.

TBH, I have always been suspicious of men who are teachers in grade school. Especially the younger grades.
What grown man would want to be surrounded by yapping children all day?
High school is different -- boys of that age should be taught by men.
But a man wanting a job with little kids seems strange to me.

My comments above is a summary. Simple tip: Never and do not argue with a specific ethnic provider who wants to give you anything! I could have added 20 more paragraphs covering everything, and I chose not to because most mongers are not interested in "novels." Have a splendid day as I am going to a church with her soon.

Women teaching young men. Every time I see a hot teachers photo come up on the news for having a sex with a teenage boy, I think about how much I dreamed of having sex with a teacher from the age of around 12 til this day. If something like this happened to me, I would be forever grateful and if it had happened to one of my sons. I would have been almost as grateful.
@Chiparlor, the give forward mentality is alive and well. Use that money in a method that will make the giver proud. They work ridiculous hours and it is difficult for a kind hearten person in that situation to distribute charity. She sees you as a portal of good and that is to be commended. This is actually a more difficult circumstance than distributing your own time and money.

You're not off base with that. In studies of pedophiles, this is textbook for a target rich environment.

I agree with what you say except; if someone is gay it doesn’t mean they are a pedophile.
