The other thing we have to push back on is the notion that premarital sex is bad.

It's not premarital sex if you have no intention of getting married, said George Burns.

Prohibition is a good example of what happens when pious moralists get their way. Even losing that one didn't matter. They'd rather go down in flames for their beliefs.
You should read the book 'Chasing the Scream' about what the guy who was in assistant commissioner in charge enforcing prohibition did when it was recinded, he saved his job for sure, at the expense of many human lives, and so many are still dying because of him.

Chasing the Scream and Colony Within a Nation; two good books that will keep me busy and out of AMPs for a while. Good recommendations. Thanks. The Colony Within a Nation looks to be a premise that we are all aware of, but don’t want to admit. Back in the SH days there was a Book Club thread.

I'm not really a follower of Chris Hayes, and know enough about him to recognize that he comes with his own angle. That said, I think he was fairly objective in his writing of colony within a nation, and I tried to read it without putting my spin on the info he revealed. For quite a few of his claims, it is easy with the internet to go out and pull documents that support his statements. For example, how did I miss that the Boston Tea Party occurred because the tax on tea was lowered?

All that said, each of these books helped me to understand the issues discussed differently, process in a more educated manner the manipulated news we receive on these topics, and respond differently to those who repeat the lies and, continue to live in those echo chambers of lies. But I haven't figured out how to be a part of changing things for the better.

A number of years ago on Bestgfe, we actually had a book group reading that was led by a provider. I think it was a gal who went by the handle PrettyGirl, but it may have been another one, possibly JinxyMaze. I had never had a session with either, but the reading group was good. They actually drummed up some business for themselves.

Lately, I've been tackling some of the book noirs of mysteries like LA Confidential and The Big Sleep. They help to understand that things are not always as they seem on the surface, which applies to the hobby world in a lot of ways.

Any non-fiction crime recommendations? Appreciate it.
I have a pretty good one to make. We're all familiar with the Black Dahlia murder in Los Angeles just after World War 2. Try this book:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/black-dahlia-red-rose-piu-eatwell/1125676332?ean=9781631492273#/

I've read a number of books on this subject and some of them are just crazy and off the mark... daddy was the murderer, etc.... This author, who is a Brit, takes a clinical look at things. She has no axe to grind with anyone or anything. She looks at the police at the time, the background, the locations.

I believe she actually identifies the murderer and does so one chapter at a time. Of the books written on this subject, and there are many, I think she solves it.

The Onion Field by Joseph Wambaugh.
If this is not unconstitutional and an invasion of privacy, then nothing is. The Senator was not initially arrested for anything, but his phone number apparently showed up in a provider's cell phone. Then they basically hunted him down. Sad.
Even if I applied the most liberal definition of privacy, this one would be a hard one to qualify. His texts were discovered after her arrest, which means they qualify as evidence found during routine investigation of a crime. The fact that they issued a warrant even when she issued a statement denying knowing him, probably meant somewhere in his texts to her, he crossed into the legal requirements for a Solicitation charge.

Well, I have made arrangements via texts with providers I knew well. Are we all then subject to arrest if the provider has an issue with police? I guess so.

If the texts discuss her donation and she is arrested for prostitution, I wonder how that might be incriminating. One could have said it was just for companionship.
The most general definition of Solicitation is offering money for sex. If donation is discussed, that's the money part. If anything sexual was discussed, that the sex part. Which negates the ability to use "companionship" as a defense. If no sexual services was discussed, then you're still within the "two consensual adults" argument.
