That is a fair question. Here are my reasons:
1. Discretion. For those of us who have SOs it’s Hard to use a mainstream dating app and control your privacy. Tinder doesn’t really work without a pic. The concept of private pictures selectively shared isn’t applicable to the mainstream dating apps. I don’t need Angie from accounting or a college aged relative seeing my Bumble profile. SA provides that kind of cover.
2. Age discrepant dating. On a mainstream dating app being 40 and shooting at 19yos is mostly seen as creepy. On SA it’s expected and what the girls signed up for.
It has been my experience that there plenty of profiles on SA of girls who are simply probing, unsure of what they are looking for on SA. Maybe their roommate is on the site, or they are curious about he concept of dating an older man, these types are much more comfortable with a more traditional dating arrangement. Fair points. But like you said, the type of girl here for a traditional (non-paying) arrangement is in the distinct minority. And it takes a lot of effort to find them. Is it worth it? This was VERY YMMV, she met one other person on there that WAS a transaction at the time. Didn't click because of the distance, but I could dial her up when I am in the neighborhood I am sure.
Another, we spoke for a few days. Started with the fake town, fake name, etc etc. Within a week, I was getting the real details. Graduated. Starter her career. Moved. 18 months in and covid shut things down for the company. She was back home, struggling with it. She came over, we had dinner and some drinks. Spend the night. I am not saying this works for everybody. But there is only one common theme among any of the wins I have had there. Not one success just required a phone call and asking for availability, And I think that's where most people miss out. The won't work through any of the bullshit.
And to be honest, this applies almost across the board. You will get much more out of your AMP experience if you don't just treat it like swiping a card at the gas station. Not with ALL, but with many. And Indy situations too.
