AMPs are done

I think 50%-75% of AMPs will not permanently reopen from this shutdown. Besides being a service business you have the added fear of skin to skin contact that will make the percentages higher than a hair salon for example.
What do you think and who won’t reopen?

I believe they will reopen but not for 12-18 months. The virus has to infect a minimum of 50-60% of the population to develop herd immunity, absent a vaccine. It will take 18 months for a vaccine IF one that works can be manufactured. So that means 200 million Americans have to be infected before the health officials will call it under control. And even at that point it’s still contagious. All bets are off if it mutates.

Unfortunately, I believe most spas will not reopen where they are now, since they are with a few exceptions, leased storefronts. The owners of the spas I know are freaking out because they have signed commercial leases with personal guarantees and don’t know how they will pay next month’s rent, let alone 12-18 months of it. They will default and be evicted. They also won’t get a bailout.

But there will be incredible pent up consumer demand after a year or so and spas should start to pop up all over again.

One thing that may happen in the interim is some girls will arrange with good customers to meet privately. Don’t worry, they have your number if you’ve ever called to make an appointment. Seeking Arrangements also will likely be flooded with new options.

Just my opinion. Hope I’m way off base. But the math says 18 months, not 2 weeks.

Good luck to all, my friends.

Could there be a return of American girl spas?

I think 1/3 will be gone for good 6 months from now. Seems like 1/2 already were over the last 10 years due to various reasons. For those in the hobby for a long time you know that it’s been in a continual decline for a long time. It ain’t what it used to be. I don’t see that stopping only getting worse now. Lots of long time providers have been gone for good. Few young girls anymore, its a sad decline.

If they were open I’d go now! I’ve had little to do except study the stats on this. The end result will be that this is a bad flu (little worse for elderly). We will look back and see that we punished nice people like my favorite AMP providers with little to show for it except politicians patting themselves on the back.
The good news is that my providers will remain in US and will reopen as quickly as they can. I for one will be tipping a little extra on the next few to help them get back up and running.

So far I don't see a lot of new talent on SA.

Right now most people, including providers, are still processing the situation and the uncertainty does not help. I agree with @kgirler, the owners are surely freaking out. I am in contact with a few spa girls & civvies. For the moment, they are sheltering and enjoying their rest. But we are still in the WTF? stage. The inflection point will come when the $$ starts to run out. For many, that will happen in 2-8 weeks. Then you will see desperation set in. About 40% of people don't even have $1K saved for emergencies. Its going to get very ugly, very quickly.

The other thing is that even the well off among us feel burned by the collapse in the Market (and our asset values). That will make us less likely to spend as freely on AMPs as we did pre-CV19. On top of that, we have the obvious safety concerns. Plus a lack of excuses due to travel restrictions (no biz trips for a while). My own feeling is that, in 6 weeks, we will see a lot of bargain pussy available (and not just Asian pussy) through various channels. Whether we take advantage of it is another matter.

Your comment on reasons to be on the road does ring very true. Not sure what reason I could give since client meetings are done for now...maybe I wouldn’t go right now. But I really really want to

Yeah, its a whole different dynamic for us married guys, especially with no local AMPs open. Even 2 weeks ago, I could tell my wife "I have to go to X, be back in 2 days" and she would not bat an eye. Now she knows my company has encouraged us to work from home. Though my office is still technically open, I've noticed she is a lot more apt to call and check on me now. If I told her I was traveling now, there would be lots of questions and scrutiny; it would not pass the smell test. Even worse, the only things that are really open are hardware, grocery and gas. That make it tough to explain being gone for 3 hours or more. Any missing time longer than that is going to draw lots of questions. So if one of my ATFs wants me to come to Flushing to meet them, its out of the question.

I cannot speculate about the percentage of spas which will re-open of close permanently, but there is a market and ALL markets seek efficiency and equilibrium. A good many of the Asian providers have significant savings "under the mattress" here and back home. The Asian propensity to save is geometrically higher than Americans. While the silly ones may waste money on handbags and such, the smart ones have a safe somewhere, filled with cash. I've seen it for myself!

That said, the unpaid commercial leases will lead to some evictions. But the landlords will have no new tenants, so the current spa owners will simply sell their business to a friend or re-incorporate. The property and all furnishings will be at the ready.

As for the mongers, the savvy ones have multiple friends on mobile or WeChat. When restrictions are lifted, arrangements will be made to meet at homes in Flushing, in hotels and casinos, and on "vacations" with the hope of being first on deck. Lots of rested women and horny men will lead to very good days and nights! And then one day, the amps, like the sparrows in San Capistrano, will return!
