The first time I ever went to a parlor, I followed the advice to say I'd been there. So when the mamasan asked, I said "yes" and even gave a name that I had researched previously. She then responded "no you haven't, I would have remembered your face." and she led me to the room. And that was the last time I lied about it. If it is a new place for me, I just say, like others have said, "My first time here, but not my first time" and this has never been an issue. I don't even get why the lie. I mean, I've heard the explanation, but I don't think it really makes any difference. It's just something that gets passed on and on as what you are supposed to do.
If I know the cost, I just have the money ready and visible. If I don't know the cost, I just ask "how much for everything?" and then pay what they say. This has always worked for me.
