Drove down the 1200 block of Race , Wednesday around midnight, there were a number of “homeless” and or other all along the cc sidewalk, really seemed concentrated on that particular stretch?? Hmmm???
It's usually like that and at all times of the day. There's a mission across the street which provides food and shelter to these folks. Tough block for sure, but pretty harmless.
There is a few tents pitched under the old railroad arch near 11th Street. These homeless are harmless just make sure your car is locked with everything in the trunk.
You should see how many line up for lunch around noon.
Ya. The original poster (Country mouse) doesn’t seem to frequent the city a whole lot. No slight, but a city mouse is no stranger to a few homeless and potentially a gaggle of them outside a social services area.
Their is a church/ mission that gives out free food/ counseling etc.
when it is free Food time they Line up around the block. They are all relatively harmless. Just mind your own business / be self aware of your surroundings and get to where you need to get to.

At 1527 Chestnut, the police frequent 5 Guys for burgers and for some reason it's a popular meeting spot for the bike cops. They pay no attention to the spa door or just call to get let in the back door.

There's a soup kitchen and homeless outreach place on that block on the corner of Race and Camac Sts. Never had a problem in that block with the residents or vice. Just go about your business and no one will bother you.
You sound paranoid. I am not sure how true it is but I've heard that uncle in Philly really only classifies homicides as a top priority. The rest goes on a list of "we will get to it when we get to it" with a massage parlor being like #10,000 on that second list.
Close but no cigar. Philly Police priority changes every morning. AMPs are #1 when a nosey neighbor complains. Go 4 pages deep into the Sunday Inquirer "Region Section" and you will see the weekly summary of murders and shootings in Philly: never a suspect or a witness. Drag the corpse out of the street and toe tag 'em till someone claims them, pretty routine in 2020.
My advice is to pay heed when you suspect LE lurking around the AMP or hotel you were hop scotching into. Trust your gut and live to fight another day.
I know they just disbanded the encampment, however, just thought it was a bit suspicious that that particular block had like two dozen “homeless” folks , as opposed to 0 on the 13th block and 0 on the 11th block
I have been frequenting Sun Spa at 12th and Camac Streets a lot lately. Quite a large number of homeless have set up a good size encampment on Camac Street at the intersection. It is really convenient to the soup kitchen at that intersection which serves breakfast and lunch. Not sure about dinner.
I even parked right there with no problems. It seems they are very well behaved, not even asked for money once. So don't let them discourage you from going to 1217 or the other 2 spas on 12th.
