It's not about the 10 or 20 bucks. It's about the mms telling you "that this time I’ll need to check in with mms, discuss services, and prepay." Without some effort from the mms to make amends, I just wouldn't want to patronize that place.

Your mms could use some instruction on customer relations!
The MMS is protecting her girls. I can respect that even if the reason for the misunderstanding is with them not communicating. I've had MMS text me asking why I haven't visited, and I would let them know that being accused of shorting a girl is something I won't stand for, and they have no one but themselves to blame. Even if they want me back as a customer, I won't go back.

Like the OP said in post #54, he cleared the issue up with the MMS, because she wasn't aware of the amount the girl was shorted. Which in reality, she wasn't shorted. However, if I'm in the OP's situation, where spa choices are low, I would do exactly what he's doing. Explain to the MMS I didn't short the girl. Maintain my "generous" reputation by making up that $10. Don't see that girl any more (she would be rotating out soon). And make sure the HF is paid in exact change so there's no more "misunderstandings". Especially since most of the girls don't have access to the register if the MMS in on premise. As long as I'm on the MMS's good side, the spa is GTG.

It’s funny, in any other business a manager would be apologetic & give a generous customer the benefit of the doubt rather than risk losing a solid customer.

Their language barrier and cultural differences get in the way sometimes. Asian women cannot be judged only by Ameicann standards. Their saving face is very important to them.

I would make the trip back to speak with MMS and provider in question if at all possible and if she’s not busy, making certain to clear things up, MMS and provider would prolly invite to stay for a session to the which I would decline and announce I won’t be returning.

All the more reason to be apologetic. They never know what a pissed off customer will do. And, they should know either from experience or from word of mouth the trouble an upset customer can bring to their shop.
Works both ways. In that area, where there are few spas, and the MMS’s all keep tabs on the bad customers, pissing off one can get you banned from the others.

They’re doing business in the west. A good businessperson conforms to the culture of the customer. I blame the MMS for allowing it and placing ANY guilt upon the customer who for the most part is paying handsomely for the service. It happens frequently enough that it seems to be a wink and nod tactic many use as a way to get an extra bump. I like being generous, I don’t like feeling duped(the amount is irrelevant).

In life it is always best to take the high road, and not burn any bridges. You never know when you have to cross that river again. Just apologize, make it right and move on if you have to. You will be viewed as a bigger man. Being respectful has always gotten me the best service at every spa I have attended. Life's too short.

You can give them a little latitude, but I have never had any issue at a spa. Always got the 10 back for a 70 house fee. Just stuck it with the tip I was leaving at the end or whenever the girl asked for it. After the first session the girl knew she was going to get it back anyway. And never shorted a girl for either the house fee or tip. If I was paying the tip at the end I would jest give the standard tip if I wasn't thrilled and Knew I would not see her again. We should all just agree that we all handle things differently

In hindsight, I probably wouldn’t stop coming to this shop, especially if it’s near and not many other options close by, but I would decline another session with the girl in question. And definitely bring correct denomination of bills to avoid another mishap.

Every one I met can count greenbacks in both languages by feel, blindfolded. Lol. What you say is so true, and a good reminder. But they also put their ability to develop guanxi right up there with face, and it is we who are their guanxi.

I am believing we have resolved this question. It seems to me that there are as many solutions as people here, let's hope that whatever the solution, it is a polite, respectful approach. No doubt BigBob would be.

Maybe OP should return, request same girl, same session rate of $110 and again hand her $120 with the expectation of $10 change back, see what the outcome is, I wonder will he get change back this time around.

true that , thanks BIgBob..... good topic
thanks to everyone for advice. I appreciate it. I did go back in last night, talked for a while with the MMS and ended up having her join a session with a different girl. I think things are cool with her (never know for sure), but i am concerned about causing the original girl to lose face, and have no solution there. I dont know at this point whether I will have another session with her, but i will be back in that spa again next week.
And yes house was 110 again, i put down 120 and i got my 10 back, and rolled it into the tip like normal.

Who do you feel was at fault for not giving initial change back? MMS or provider. PM answer if you’d rather not say openly. Thanks.

My gut says provider. MMS did not throw her under the bus though, which I admire.
