Grits with stewed tomatoes (no sugar but you have have garlic and fat back) and fried eggs for breakfast.

Grits with extra sharp cheddar is the only way to go for Cheezy Grits.

Shrimp over grits with a sauce makes a delicious dinner entree. I learned well from my southern wife.

Tried grits for the first time when I lived down south. Too much butter with a slimy texture and hated them. Made them myself years later and now can't get enough of them. Every day with turkey sausage, spinach, and eggs. Always reminds me of the tv show Alice.

I had shrimp and grits and it was excellent. In a tangy barbeque sauce.

They put an egg over easy on top of it. Is that the norm? I thought the egg was okay, but not needed.
May have been a signature dish there. Never have come across BBQ grits. Local place has Cheesy Garlic Grits that allows you to a add egg to it. Would order it over medium. Over easy makes it sound like the yolk would overpower the flavor of your vittles. And I am intrigued and worrisome of BBQ sauce on breakfast.

Now cajun shrimp and cheesy garlic grits are absolutely fantastic. Throw whatever egg you want on that and it would still be amazing.

Agree. The dish itself was excellent. I ended up having it the next time I went to the place. The egg on top was absolutely uneccessary, but I went with it because that is how the chef liked to make it.

Well hell, if it brought you back a second time I'm going to have to try some BBQ on the grits. Agree with the over easy egg thing, but you came back for seconds so it must work some how.
