Wow this does not bode well for keeping a low profile for these spaces. They definitely need to work together to handle the homeless guy issue. Ive often encountered the guys trying to get me to go to a different spot I imagine they get paid by those places when they show up with someone (5 or 10 bucks I hear). Im surprised they got aggressive with you at the door though.
For folks form out of town, most of these guys are not going to start shit but may carry an aggressive demeanor. I usually disarm them when they try to take me somewhere else by asking if they're going to pay for me as well since I already had plans to go to the place I intended. Or some kind of line like that usually brings the temperature down on the interaction.
One time I did ask to get let in through the back door of the Spa as there was a congregation of individuals out front at the time causing a scene with each other that I did not feel like stepping between.

This shithead has been harassing these spas for a few years. I was out with a girl that was working at Pink a couple years ago and we had to come back to the spa. I kicked the fucker out of their vestibule, called him some names I should not have and called the police. They give in sometimes and the spas give him some money just to get rid of him. That's why he is still around.

Last time I visited, he harassed me walking out. I turned left and heard him yelling but just ignored him till he caught up to me “yo buddy… YO BUDDY! Aye man you got any cash?” I told him no and he said “man, you just got some ass and you ain’t got no cash?!” I said nahhh, I got a massage buddy and I have no cash on me. Smh as I walk away with a good laugh.
