Well we are not exactly "real" americans either so foreigner applies to us as well since Native Indians are the real Americans. We are just descendants from our ancestors who came to murder rape and take over the land.
Oh baloney. Any one born here is by definition a native American. You don't think stronger more powerful Indian tribes waged war and subjugated weaker tribes historically in the Americas, taking their lands along the way? Before we start designating saint-like status to certain groups of people let's acknowledge that history isn't always as black and white as some of us would make it out to be.

You need to understand a little Chinese culture. To all Chinese, everyone is a foreigner. Wàiguó rén

Now, once I was in Vienna, Austria and standing near St Stephen Cathedral when a young American couple stopped me to ask directions. Knowing how to get them where they wanted to go, I gave directions in pure New Yorkees." Go left one block and hang a left and make a sharp right". As they were walking away I heard the man telling his girlfriend, isn't it wonderful how these foreigners can speak English.

The first part of your comment I agree with. The second part about us being descendants ... is way wrong. Our ancestries came seeking a better life. They didn’t murder rape and take over any land.

I don't get to call anyone who isn't my race a 'foreigner' and have that type of ignorance accepted. Why should the Chinese?
Just a weird thought. They may not have a word for different race in their language we can distinguish a black guy in chinese and all black guys to them are probably Africans. If it's a white guy he would have to be a European ....if hes a "white guy" what distinguishes his color from the color of a typical modern day asian? Nothing!!! That can be a little confusing So the best way to characterize those who are not native to their people would be foreigner even when they are in another country.

We are as racist as Asians, we call Mexicans "amigo", Chinese "chink" black "the N word" . I think calling other foreigner actually better, nicer and non racist. :)

Most dictionaries translate it as “foreigner” and that’s unfortunate because it seems to trigger the fuck out of a lot of googletranslate and WeChat users but I don’t believe 老外 is all that negative.

老 generally means old and gets put in front of words for spouses, teachers, bosses (to their face), your hometown BFF, etc. in other words a term of respectful endearment.

外 means outside the zone of discussion. Any negative connotation of outside is as likely to be in the mind of the listener (or google translate readers) as in the mind of the speaker.

I’m getting old. Everyone is so sensitive these days. Do we still say “sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never harm me”??? I guess not.
If you don’t speak other languages you probably won’t understand but some words and expressions just don’t translate well.

Good to know !!! Maybe it will demystify and suffice as a reasonable explanation of why natural borns have become foreigner in their own land. Thanks

Well there are a few good ones but everywhere people raped, murdered and stole at one point in time no matter what color skin you have. If you came from europe or other country recently you might be not part of the stuff that happened in "America" but don't forget same thing happened in all other countries at one point although we weren't part of it but who knows if our ancestors werent?

Amigo is not a derogatory term. Amigo means friend.
The N word is a creolized version of Negro which means BLACK in Spanish. The spanish and Portuguese shipped and sold slaves and they were advertised as Negros for sale. The Irish and Scottish heavy accent and the rolling of the letter R created the word negrrrrras which became nigrrrrrrras which became the N word. All in reference to skin color but far from a derogatory term.

Amigo is very offensive term if you are white or black calling a non English speaking Mexican.
I've never felt offended by it but post# 67 asked if you call a Mexican " amigo"..... if he gets offended his an overly sensitive asshole but I've seen americans who if you call them "friend" they become very ignorant but these are sensitive times where everyone can afford to get attitudes over anything. This P.C.(politically correct) language is bullshit!
