I was here about a year ago. I paid for parking at a lot on a side street just to play it safe. It was around midnight I would say. What is the parking like as far as street parking?

Depends on time of day... thats the heart of chinatown so obviously during the day or weekends you aint getting any street parking.. late evening on weekdays probably your best luck...

I'd use 914 Arch and then just a short walk. Parking lot there plus if you want to go somewhere else you are within walking distance of at least 4-5 Amps. Tokyo Spa is the adjacent property.

Depending on time of day, I have good luck getting parking on Arch between 8th & 9th. And if you use the Meter Up app you never have to worry about coming back to feed the meter. If not I like the lot on 9th just before Vine, this way when time to leave you are right at Vine st and miss the CT traffic

I use the lot at the Temple Foot and Ankle Institute on Cherry between 8th and 9th. It is $10 after 4 PM on weekdays and $14 all weekend.

I park a little above Vine there is usually free street parking available for 3, 4 or an unlimited number of hours. It has taken me a lot of trial by error to learn where these space's are located. From there, it is a 3 or 4 block walk to any of the Chinatown spas.

Good advice for mong's on a budget. There are a lot of reasonable lots though. I usually hit this one place which is $10 for 2 hours. Even if you use street parking (and last time I did it didn't take cards, just coins) It was close to $5...... so you aren't saving much by using street unless you know where free spots are. Generally I cut my timing close so I don't do the spot hunt... just take the extra $10 and call it a day, saves me a lot of headaches.

I just give the extra 10 or 20 dollars that I save on parking to the girl at the spa, lol. I usually tip 40 above the minimum anyway. Why pay extra for parking if you do not have to?

I don't disagree my friend. If you have the time and can find the spot, why not. I'm frugal where I can be so I have more in my hobby budget lol. Always a good strategy as long as it doesn't disrupt your day. Sometimes for me finding spots closer is worth the few bucks. Last session (where I parked near I heart) the meter ONLY took coins. Luckily I had enough - you need to carry a lot of quarters to street park if cards aren't accepted. Actually a good piece of advice for anyone who mongers near C-Town. Next time you hit the bank get a roll of quarters and keep it in your car somewhere. It took a lot of seat diving for me to come up with enough for 2 hours (which I think was like close to 20 quarters).

I find that taking the train to Jefferson Station to be the easiest way for me. One dollar parking for 12 hours at a suburban station and a free ride on Septa (senior citizen discount). Just avoid the rush hour crowd. No worries of city traffic, meters or PPA. Stop at Reading Market and then head home.

Whenever I see posts about parking, I am reminded about this all time great gem of a post put up by kantuchdis back in March 2019. Just as relevant today as it was back then...

Did fucking General Patton wonder about parking in France? Did Don Corleone fret over it? Was that something that guided El Chapo in his world? Would James Bond ponder this very important issue? Fucking childish - sissy faggotry mother fucking coddled, silver spooned, useless douche bag, wastes of humanity. parking, mother fucking parking.

Devil's advocate over here. Sorry I know it can be annoying... BUT... some of us have extremely tight windows in order to avoid "issues" (read between the lines lol). It's hard for me to get downtown, because usually my mongering windows are not more than 3 hours max and even that is pushing it, and with a commute time of probably close to half of that it doesn't leave time to dilly dally. So parking is critical in the equation, which is why 99% of the time I do a paid lot to keep to schedule. If you have unlimited time, it's not an issue, but we all have our constraints in life no matter who we are. That said... the tip about change is a good one, and I hope it helps someone. Not all meters in C-Town allow paper bills, and most of us avoid cards for the obvious reasons. A roll of quarters in the car can really save your butt in a pinch. Speaking of which I need to pick up one, I'm all out!

I never had the commute time as an issue, I can find a free place to park in less than 10 minutes with a short walk. I understand time constraints but now time is not an issue.
