Again, it's highly unlikely, but you see these scenarios in SciFi movies all the time (and, occasionally SciFi is very prescient). Also, around my way, we have power outages all the time and need crews to come fix the lines. Especially after a big storm. So it's not quite as automated as you may think.

Maybe a more prudent approach is to change your grocery delivery app to one that has multiple stores. If you are using a service like "Peapod" that is tied to your local Stop & Shop, find another service that works with Food Universe, Key Food or CVS. We have too many choices in NYC, but further away, Wegmans is not running out of anything they can't replace in 3 days. We are not going to run out of bottled water.

Oh yeah - buy a Brita or a better filter. It solves this problem using plentiful tap water.

I would forget about delivery apps...if there is widespread outbreak do you think there will be enough delivery people..imagine a delivery person going to a house that is under quarantine...

You may want to begin stocking up on essentials. On grocery delivery apps in NYC, out of stock messages are coming up as well as on Amazon.

I just reserved 3 months worth of meat to put in the freezer.

What are you doing to prepare? Are you encountering out of stock messages?

My SO is annoyed I have a very simplified keto diet. This type of scenario is where it comes in handy. The vegetables will be pickled and meat frozen. If they lock me in the building and restrict movement to certain days I'll be good until Mid June hopefully.

But even if they don't lock down, grocery stores stock will be unpredictable the next 2 months. Get your favorite things while you can.

How do you know the people that manufactured, delivered, and stocked these products haven't been infected? You are bringing the disease into your house!

For now, it's because we know you can't catch it from dry surfaces. The virus needs moisture, and can live a few days. But if your worry is fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and fish, you can still get rid of it by washing. If it didn't die when you had those items in the fridge. They need a warm environment to stay alive.

If they find out they did anyway, they would have enough to last the quarantine without needing to go out and buy anything. There will be lots of people that gets tested positive and will be requested to self quarantine. But they will be supported with deliveries of all the necessities like food and medication.

Depends on the severity of the symptoms. Most will develop flu-like symptoms. Some will need anti-viral medication to avoid developing pneumonia.

My larger point is that their are cheaper and more robust alternatives for protein than meat. I like foods that provide the most bang-for-the-buck. One protein bar at noon can hold me until dinner.

I had this debate a long time ago with my upperclassman in college. Ultimately I accepted through direct experience that depending on the individual, the human body best absorbs protein, B12 and iron from grass fed cows. Genetically I become anemic easily if I don't eat beef at least 2x a week. Too offset that I pair with lots of vegetables to move it through the digestive tract and keep antioxidant levels high to avoid c-reactive protein and unhealthy levels of homocysteine increase that can accompany consumption of beef.

I'm also not planning on wiping my ass with old phone books and junk mail after drinking a keg of Natural Light. I think this panic is a joke. It's life. Shit happens and germs are going to germ. Some live, some don't. It's not a new thing. Creating a mass panic about it helps no one. Those that are infected get bumped out of the line due to someone that sneezed and has better insurance. Maybe if you read my whole comment, instead of only including the first two goofy sentences that spilled out of my brain, you would see that the whole thing was a joke comment.

We all have a threshold on what we consider safe. There are some people out there who thinks your joke statement is fact, and that's why I responded to those two specific sentences. The fact I didn't respond to the rest means I don't disagree.

Yeah. I don't watch any cable news channels or read any site with extreme political views. Or have any social media accounts. So I have no idea what the nutjobs on both sides are spreading and I don;t want to know. I guess there are people out there that would take that joke post as serious. I'm going to sit this one out.
