John Gorka I got to play an acoustic set of this song wayyyy back in 1991! I remember him saying to my friend's dad, who had just told him "this kid is really good, let him sit down with you guys and play a little, ok?", and John said back to him, "what, that kid with the mohawk and the arms?" Knocked his socks off though, I had only heard the song two nights earlier at a little show he did at a tiny club. Easy song to play of course, but when he challenged me with another song, he smiled and laughed like no way this kid can keep up.

"tolls on the parkway they will slow you down"

These fscking guys lmao we saw them live back in like 1990 or so, was the day before I left for Dead tour. Seriously the music was so fucked up and messed me so badly, I had to check like ten times to make sure the McCormick dye bottles I was carrying full of lsd hadn't spilled in my pocket. The album is better than live, I'm enjoying their first major record, Pure Guava right now, and still checking to make sure I didn't accidentally dose myself when I was in my freezer picking out a popsicle just now.

Damn you Mark. You sent me down a ween-hole. Took me 28 yrs to realize there’s only 10 songs on this album. Missed the punchline for a few decades.

Yea that's the best part of this thread! Been down some holes of bands I never would have listened to otherwise!

Is it me, or does the lead song on that Japanesien Cowboy record sound like any song on Bobby Weir's Ace record? Totally awesome.

And here's some Bobby Weir's Ace record :)

Yeah, it’s funny. Each song is a ween-take on a classic country music sub style & trope. “You were the Fool” is such a Graham Parsons song it’s sick
