Google is surprisingly helpful with these requests and much less caustic with the responses. Also, many people provide soooo much details in the comments section, you don't even need to read the actual reviews to get the gist of a place.
I'll share my go to move with you when I am in a strange area and not sure about which shop to pick. You call to make the appt, or go in cold. When you get there and see the set up and the woman you are going to get, if she doesn't meet your tastes or you don't get a good vibe, you pat on your empty back pocket, saying oh darn, I've forgotten my wallet, which is neatly tucked inside your jacket pocket, head out and try another spot.
