I think bmi is a very crude rule of thumb and maybe very inaccurate. It doesn't really distinguish weight that comes from fat vs lots of muscle or bigger bone density or even just water retention. If you were a very muscular guy with thick bones, bmi will say you need to lose weight which is nonsense.
