Now onto my vodka days.

I never saw the great attraction with vodka. Even the most rotgut ones were basically tasteless.

I had friends buying Grey Goose or Belvidere when Ted Danson's Smirnoff was probably just as good.

So, at the most, I might have a dry Grey Goose up with a twist of lemon.

Lucky bastard! Wld gladly pay 200 for a double shot of Yamasaki 25. I do have a cpl bottles of the 18 that I snagged from the Astor Wine sale a few weeks ago. They had the hibiki’s too @ 15% off.

I guess so, it was a while back at Red Farm on Hudson in the west village, the bartender snuck in a little more than a Jigger. Very smooth drink but to be honest after speaking with some single malt aficionados a good Macallan is a sturdy go to scotch. I recently tried the Aera, highly recommend it

Macallan is a grand old Scotch. I believe some consider their 25 Year Old the best there is.

I have a friend in the Army, and he brought me one of these from Taiwan. I love the silver wrap paper inside the box. Very elegant packaging.

These are my notes on the tasting (yes, I am a Whisky nerd, I track every dram):

Nose: Oaky and somewhat bitter at the pour. Notes of an amaretto sour and Just a slight spiced plums whiff. The nose softens substantially after a few minutes into dark sherry and plum sweetness.

Palate: Sweet and full. Lots of sherry, plums, powdered sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Silky mouthfeel.

Finish: Short, with a mild burn but gives to a long, lingering presence of sweetness.

A nice dram for an evening cap.

So I got this as a gag gift...needless to say, never opened.

Vodka was my goto before the whisky bug bit me. Smoothest I ever had was Pravda.

I created an account, they won’t deliver to me...also, limit of one bottle. Road trip tomorrow, and taking son and daughter in law! Thank you.

After dinner libations were varied and enjoyable in my drinking days.

Where to start?

Well, the anise based drinks of the Middle East were good. Medicinal even, in a way. There was Ouzo of Greece, Arak of Lebanon, and Raki of Turkey.

In Turkey, you could add ice water to the Raki and drink it with an appetizer of honey dew.

Of the three, Arak was the strongest. I usually kept a bottle of Raki in the house.

If I deviate from the water of life, I usually tap into some homemade Limoncello from the freezer.

Have you ever tried Raki? It is similar to Ouzo, but I think the fruit used in the distilling process is different. I found Raki a tad smoother. The best Raki is made by Tekirdag. Harder to find, but worth it. They use spring water in the distilling process.
You must seem quite the sophisticate to your new NC neighbors

Yes, I tried raki before. I normally have raki when I go to a Turkish restaurant. It's similar to ouzo. When I go to a Greek restaurant, I'll have ouzo.
