When to walk out (Joanna's in Paoli)

I called Joanna's today, and made an appt. I was working about an hour away, so I told them I could be there in 75 minutes. Joanna told me the 3 girls who were there (Susan, Lucy, and Tiffany.) I got there right on time and Joanna isn't there. Lucy comes out and tells me to come back in 30 minutes, that they are all busy. Susan popped her head out and said I could wait in one of the rooms. I told them no, that if they couldn't keep the appointment time, I wasn't going to wait, and I walked out. I like the place, but I'm torn about going back there. It's a more convenient location than almost anywhere else.

talk about entitlement. they had no idea if you would even show up. I don't get why you would "set up an appointment" when you're over an hour away from the place. of course they're going to take walk ins in that hour. you expect them to just stop operating and wait for you? lol no
Is it really so hard for you to understand why someone would want to "set up an appointment" before driving more than an hour to a place? It seems to me to be the only logical thing to do Most spas value their repeat customers, and they would not take a walk-in over an appointment from someone they know. Taking the walk-in and risking pissing off the repeat customer is bad business.

I had a similar experience last week. I called and asked when Susan was available. They told me 12:30 (1 hr later) so I confirmed that I would be there. I walked through the door around 12:30, and was greeted by an older lady. When I told her I had an appointment with Susan, she called to the back. Then out comes Susan claiming they are very busy....wanting to know if I come back in 30 minutes. I said no the appointment was at 12:30. She suggested that I wait in a room for 30 minutes......I walked!

I used to really like this place and walked in most of the time because I don't always run a normal schedule. Service was always good. Now it seems very different. Appointment should always be accepted especially to regular customers. No different than make an apt for a hair cut. I don't see why footjob has an issue with this and is speaking out of turn a bit. Many of us make apt's and they a more often honored than not. But depending on the situation I may wait 30 min if I really want to see a specific girl. I've take a few naps in my day waiting. Personal preference...

This is a real ignorant and stupid comment from a lurker with no reviews. Entitlement ? What a jackass.

Standard operating procedure is to call the appointment to double-check when a walk-in comes.

I believe that Lucy does the front office when Joanna is away and Susan has expressed that is when things do not run smoothly.

I agree, it is bad business but I see more and more trying to squeeze in an extra even if they risk upsetting a regular customer. They don’t look it that way - their view is that the regular, repeat customer will understand and not mind waiting or being put off a few (most likely several) minutes. And, when you express displeasure or don’t return, they act truly miffed and say something like, “I didn’t think it would bother you”. My reply is, “Then I’m sure your not bothered by me not returning to see you and seeing your friends at such and such a spa”.

I do understand and most places, I would definitely have a plan B spa in the even I get the busy story. Joanna's has that amazing steam shower. I could easily burn 15 to 25 minutes relaxing in there before a session. It really is a great way to loosen up the muscles before a massage. If more of you guys did that, Joanna might start honoring the appointments to keep the water bill down.

That’s a great idea ! CB you always have good ideas and keen insight regardless of what the issue is. Who ever you work for, they are damn lucky to have you. Hope you receive special consideration during bonus time.

I’ve never encountered a delay at Joanna’s, but I have elsewhere. I used to stay and be patient but now I walk and don’t return. In the future, if if my appointment is not honored and I have to wait, at places that have a shower - especially a standup shower, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. In fact, even when they come to get me, I’ll tell them I’m not finished and let the water run full blast.
