When did screening and deposit become the norm?

New monger here. Started in late 2023. November will be my 2nd full year and I was reading about the old backpage days. Did the OG mongers predict that screening and deposit would take over the game? What year did we see serious change to our hobby?

Upscale agencies and indies always screened. Usually they wanted references. Sometimes they wanted your work phone number to confirm your place of employment, and they'd simply listen to the voice mail message and hang up.
Nowadays some agencies seem to want more info.

A deposit is not something I would do. Maybe I would consider a one time deposit, like a joiners fee for a very reputable agency, but a deposit before every visit? No way.

Probably began when the girls started complaining about getting raped and ziptied and robbed and beaten and kidnapped. I don't do deposit, I don't do screening that involves real-world infos, but I don't fault the gals for doing it and I highly highly recommend they do it. If dudes would stop raping and robbing them, the rest of us wouldn't have to bother with screening.

In the old days, in other countries for sure, but here sometimes too, the good orgs always demanded a reference, from an already existing member, who then was also linked to you, if you tried any type of bullshit. I remember getting grandfather to get me in to an org he used a lot in Germany, it was almost as rigorous as getting into the country club. Sponsor, deposit, interview, and so on. Still no real-world infos though. Whatever it takes to keep the riff raff out is fine by me.

I have never and will never pay a deposit. The most i ever do is take a photo of the cash with an item of the providers choosing to show I'm real and ready. I mean like have my phone in background with her website.

As to verification it used to be heavy p411 and started going away from that for me about 10 years ago. I think the issue was p411 not taking in new people that drove it.

Screening has been around a long time. In my area, providers started asking for 2 or more provider references in the mid 2000's. You would need to provide the name, email, phone number, website or ad of 2 or more providers who would vouch for you. Then some started asking for deposit or photo ID, but that was only a few. It wasn't until the 2010's that deposits and photo ID requirements became more common and then in the late 2010's those two were widespread. I don't know when AMP/AAMP started asking for photo ID but I'd guess in the last couple of years. Something like that anyways.

In my experience , Screening has been the norm.for so-called "Higher End" establishments, while deposit requirements are a scam , or a set up.to see how gullible you are for for suture scams

It's only a norm that affects people that are willing to participate. I've never sent a deposit and never shown my ID to any booker or hooker. I've been on P411 for ages. I was vouched in by a hooker so I never had to provide info. I also used that as a springboard into the agencies I've used. If a hooker wants my ID, I just refuse and point to my bona fides. If that's not good enough, I just figure she doesn't need to pay rent with my cash and move on.

That said, I AM willing to do a phone call (voice) on a burner that I have.

I'm on p411 but that seems more valuable overseas these days. Mostly here I get by with recommendations from other providers, but if I want the girl bad enough I will provide credit. That's not an nyc thing, it happens more in smaller towns with small talent pools for me.

Deposits protect the girls from "no shows" and what they call "time wasters" and "picture collectors." Bad actors took advantage of the new norm to scam desperate guys out of their deposits. There will always be bad actors no matter what the pay arrangements are. You always have to be vigilant and do your due diligence.

LOL at any guy who pays a deposit.

Just ignore the "deposit required" language and make your date. Most of the time the girl will show up anyway.

Sometimes the girl will flip out when you tell her no deposit is forthcoming. "DIDN'T YOU SEE WHERE IT SAID ON MY TRYST AD DEPOSITS ARE REQUIRED? HOW CAN YOU WASTE MY TIME LIKE THIS, LOSER?"

That girl was never going to show up anyway. The purpose of her ad was to entice you to pay a deposit, not to make a date. Just laugh it off and move on, happy to have dodged a sexy but expensive bullet.

I think where some guys get in trouble is they see an ad and HAVE TO GET that particular girl. So they pay the deposit out of desperation, not stopping to think there are a hundred other similar hookers who can fill his needs. And who will not require a deposit.

Giving a deposit gives the negotiating power greatly in favor of the person getting the deposit.
If they take your deposit and just ignore you or start with major upsell there isn't much you can do about it other than warn others on sites like this one.
A least with legitimate business there are repercussions for misrepresenting what you are selling.

The bolded part is not true for most girls, the deposit is in response to dickheads that waste their time. I was getting BBJ from a gal last week, a cute Mexican doll, and her phone kept blowing up, it was distracting, and I told her go ahead and take care of that, then silence it. She quickly silenced her phone without dealing with the problem. I thanked her. She said this guy has been texting her for two days, endlessly asking questions and setting times then quickly having an excuse and asking for a different time and date. From her perspective, HE was never going to show up anyway. For some girls, they actually prep for each date, some even live someplace else and only book hotel for YOU and this session, and will never do such a thing without a deposit. I totally get it and support this kind of thing, but would never participate in deposit myself.

There ARE deposit thieves, but the easiest combat against this is ask the google for that provider's phone number. If you see any posting or listing that is more than 6 months old, even better a posting from another city, you are 99% certain that she is real, not the police, and not a deposit thief. Anything else, and you can roll snake eyes.

The rest is 100% right on. IS your money, if you don't like how the booking is going, how the drive there is going, how the hotel or apartment looks, what color the doorknob is, whatever, you move along. Reason number 10 why we don't ever give deposit.

I don't do deposits. But there was this Cambodian girl I used to front money to when she was hard up. Like she got into a city and was broke I'd give her money for a hotel and paid her phone bill. The deal was I was paying for extras in the next session we did. Like the upcharge for anal, bbj, cof, rimming, etc. I used to call it to pizza toppings. Some nights it was the everything pizza with her. But I'd never give money to a girl I haven't met.
