When did screening and deposit become the norm?

New monger here. Started in late 2023. November will be my 2nd full year and I was reading about the old backpage days. Did the OG mongers predict that screening and deposit would take over the game? What year did we see serious change to our hobby?

Upscale agencies and indies always screened. Usually they wanted references. Sometimes they wanted your work phone number to confirm your place of employment, and they'd simply listen to the voice mail message and hang up.
Nowadays some agencies seem to want more info.

A deposit is not something I would do. Maybe I would consider a one time deposit, like a joiners fee for a very reputable agency, but a deposit before every visit? No way.

Probably began when the girls started complaining about getting raped and ziptied and robbed and beaten and kidnapped. I don't do deposit, I don't do screening that involves real-world infos, but I don't fault the gals for doing it and I highly highly recommend they do it. If dudes would stop raping and robbing them, the rest of us wouldn't have to bother with screening.

In the old days, in other countries for sure, but here sometimes too, the good orgs always demanded a reference, from an already existing member, who then was also linked to you, if you tried any type of bullshit. I remember getting grandfather to get me in to an org he used a lot in Germany, it was almost as rigorous as getting into the country club. Sponsor, deposit, interview, and so on. Still no real-world infos though. Whatever it takes to keep the riff raff out is fine by me.

I have never and will never pay a deposit. The most i ever do is take a photo of the cash with an item of the providers choosing to show I'm real and ready. I mean like have my phone in background with her website.

As to verification it used to be heavy p411 and started going away from that for me about 10 years ago. I think the issue was p411 not taking in new people that drove it.

Screening has been around a long time. In my area, providers started asking for 2 or more provider references in the mid 2000's. You would need to provide the name, email, phone number, website or ad of 2 or more providers who would vouch for you. Then some started asking for deposit or photo ID, but that was only a few. It wasn't until the 2010's that deposits and photo ID requirements became more common and then in the late 2010's those two were widespread. I don't know when AMP/AAMP started asking for photo ID but I'd guess in the last couple of years. Something like that anyways.

In my experience , Screening has been the norm.for so-called "Higher End" establishments, while deposit requirements are a scam , or a set up.to see how gullible you are for for suture scams

It's only a norm that affects people that are willing to participate. I've never sent a deposit and never shown my ID to any booker or hooker. I've been on P411 for ages. I was vouched in by a hooker so I never had to provide info. I also used that as a springboard into the agencies I've used. If a hooker wants my ID, I just refuse and point to my bona fides. If that's not good enough, I just figure she doesn't need to pay rent with my cash and move on.

That said, I AM willing to do a phone call (voice) on a burner that I have.
