You guys talk like being touristy is such a negative thing. There's a good reason why the place is so popular. I've lived in Chinatown for years and still think Joe's Shanghai's dumplings are among the best. Other places put too much sugar in them as if they're a dessert.
Glad it is popular and doing well. I never said it was bad, I actually enjoy the food. Just think that there are better options without having to wait in line with all of Cleveland, OH.

Supreme Restaurant, aka. Shanghai Dumpling, aka. Shanghai Cafe Deluxe, etc. is my jam. That and Buddha Bodai's epic yi mein.

Joe's Shanghai is like the Katz's of Chinatown. I'd rather head to 2nd Ave. or Eisenberg's (RIP)

When was the last time you were at 100 mott? In its post Shanghai Cafe iterations IMO, the xiaolongbao haven't been nearly as good.
Couple times during the Dumpling era. Haven't been since the most recent rename. Gonna be pretty despondent if it sucks now. I think I'd rather have seen them closed than phoning it in.

I like The Original Buddha Bodai Kosher Vegetarian place & Tria's.

Yeah this will keep you all laughing until someone mentions a bubble tea place.
