Is it just me or has tipping gotten out of control ? Seems like no matter where you go there is either a tip jar or a menu option on the pay screen to provide a tip. Why do I need to tip someone for putting something I bought in a bag ? With the screen option it’s like they’re trying to shame you into
leaving a tip. I’m 68 years old and I can tell you no one is shaming me into anything. It’s not just NY. I was in PA last week and saw a spa in a strip mall so decided to give it a try. I got a minimal effort massage if you could even call it a massage and not a hint of anything extra. I took out a twenty for a tip and the provider tells me I should give her $40. I told her for $40 I want boom boom, laughed to myself and went out the door

I can deal with the tip jar because it is so easy to ignore , but the tip option on a pay screen is out of control .

Because… why not? That’s why. Leave a jar out = someone will put something in there. It’s free money. The square payment machines that have you run through the tipping options before you can finalize the sale is annoying. Now I have to really let the worker know I am not tipping them.

During Covid I used to tip more to anyone working because of the situation. Now I do not tip at all at certain joints, i.e. Starbucks, coffee shops, take out...

Establishments such as Starbucks provide minimum service. They are making a drink with a premium cost. I ask myself why I'm I tipping for them doing their job? Did they go above and beyond? Did they provide extra coffee for me on a side cup, no.

I’m not that upset with the occasional “asking” tip. What gets me now is the mandatory tip that establishments are forcing ppl to pay. If there is a mandatory tip.. I don’t go there
