Texas is the first state to make buying sex a felony.

This is an attempt to follow the “Scandanavian model” of discouraging demand for sexual services (as opposed to discouraging supply of those services). It views all sex workers as victims amd all clients as victimizers.

In effect, it makes things worse for sex workers, not better, by driving sex work further underground. If the law succeeds in its aim to reduce demand, sex workers are worse off. Those who are trafficked or pimped will face greater demands from their exploiters. It will make it harder to screen clients and give clients incentive to provide false information. It will make clients more demanding because they are facing increased risk in coming to a sex worker. It will make clients more reluctant to report suspected trafficking or cooperate in its prosecution.

We have already had to close this topic in the Boardwide thread since people turned it into specific political slurs. It is stupid to do this and It would be a shame if it spreaded to other states. I won;t be surprised if it does.
Keep it clean in here and NO R vs D bashing.

It would be a shame if we can’t discuss this important topic (that potentially affects all of us) in a non-partisan, respectful manner.

There's a reason why money for service is the oldest profession. Ignoring the drugs, trafficking, judiciary, and "ethical" aspects, it's a simple, honest exchange between two individuals.

It's when opportunists in the black market and the "white market" (i.e. laws and regulations, etc.) try to get a piece of the profit or a semblance of control that things worsen for sex workers, and, in turn, the overall quality of experience for sex workers and johns alike.

I don’t see it as political, particularly since the Texas senate voted unanimously for this. And that’s the scary thing to me. Any time 100 percent of politicians are in favor of anything it means they think they can’t be seen as supporting the other side. Which is bad news for us, and I’m expecting lots of copycat laws. What I don’t know is how enforceable it is. I’m sure many of you guys, like me, try to never negotiate sex for money. I may have to get stronger on that, and walk rather than discuss money, or only see girls I know from the past as cool. Or maybe I’ll just go live in Thailand….

Don’t have to worry about taxes at all when you’re sitting in a jail on felony charges....
That is why I will take a drive to La to avoid the issue or save my energy for my time up in the Northeast
Only spending enough time to avoid the taxes. Too hot half of the year there

Good question. How is this law implemented? Do you have to discuss the activity first?
