You never know, when or where....lol. On a serious note, being non-Chinese in a location that is predominantly Chinese, and entering a private residential building with mostly Chinese tenants, will elicit some stares, there are so many vagaries that can happen.
I will feel safer in the hood, I know not to trust anyone, not even the pets

Man when I went to see someone in Flushing in a door man building the Man looked at me like wtf are you doing here.

I had to tell him the apt and everything and he was still puzzled.

Honestly gents, you need more Chinese friends that are not providers.

I leave my Americanisms in my car and walk around Flushing like I belong there. Prior to C19, I would hang with friends, eat out of common plates with chopsticks and KTV with the best of them. There are fewer options now.

I still enjoy eating and socializing in that neighborhood. I always end up having a cute civvie that tries to teach me more Mandarin.

A little effort goes a long way. And all the lessons learned get applied to the hobby.

Being open minded has nothing to do with it. If you don't look like you belong, then people will look at you simple as that. Applies to every setting.
Just mind your own business and go about it. They aren't trying to start trouble. Its the opposite, they are trying to figure out if you are up to no good.

I'm very much up to no good if I'm in Flushing ;)

They don't bother you unless you create a disturbance involving multiple people.
Exactly. That’s why a set up for robbery would be handled internally, to avoid any chance for the NYPD to enter the building and start asking questions. Same for providers. Too popular, in a well occupied doorman’d building, and you wonder why she had to change locations.
