Possibly the answers above. Business is generally pretty slow from January through May and “the hobby” is under more scrutiny than usual this year.
But when have you heard a provider say “we’ve been slammed lately and are making money hand over fist.”? I have never heard that. Even when I am in a shop with guys sitting on the couch waiting their turn, they are like “it’s been slow all week until just now.”
Why lie?
They know we don’t want to be their 10th customer that day, 50th that week.... the official story is they are hanging around all day waiting for you to come in again, or to send one of your friends over.
If we knew how much they are pulling in we will be less willing to dig deep into our own pockets and bust our budgets.
They don’t want word getting around that they barely have time to go to the bank and then some creep getting the idea it would be a good place to rob. Or some IRS agent getting the idea it would be a fruitful audit.
Finally they are female, Chinese, providers. You know they are lying when their lips are moving.
