This is incorrect. It is illegal to record a "private" conversation without consent, in California. Our state is a two party state, in that both parties must consent to recording private conversations. However, there is no prohibition on recording "public" conversations, that is to say, conversations where there is no "reasonable expectation of privacy."
That's partially true. All recordings can be used in a court of law under specific circumstances. For instance if someone was arrested for going to Lucky's and ended up in court. If the person disputed that they went there, a video recording without permission could be provided as evidence to prove perjury.

Ok, no. This is also incorrect. Look at California penal code section 632. What you are talking about is relating to the due process and the criminal rules of evidence. There are certainly ways to get video into evidence, but if that video was taken in violation of California law? Good luck.
it’s a little complicated but as a constitutional argument, it is akin to the fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine found in Miranda.

Just to clarify when I say “into evidence” impeachment evidence does not get lodged as evidence in any event. It can only be used to create doubt about the witnesses credibility. This video evidence would also likely be way too prejudicial against its probative value anyways, so it’s not getting in anywhere imo.

My intuition tells me you are a lawyer - or something close. :)

Correct. Public setting is fair game to film.... even posting pics and videos of people's license plates is fair game, as they're public.

Because google is just a nice company that cares about people and takes a privacy-first approach to everything they do. People over profits, I think that's their motto.

are you sure you looking at the right part of Google map?!

I don't see Lucky's door front blurred when I drag that little figure in Google map on the place's location....
I was referring to the license plates which are always blurred out. I am not so sure about google being "nice" . . I got he feeling you were being facetious there. LOL

So why does google blur them on their maps pics?
Because Google is a for profit company that monetizes its products.

Google maps cars used to scan millions of cars for street view. That are then seen by anyone who uses a street view.

Think about it this way. If it was illegal to record license plates wouldnt all the dashcam footage be blurred?

A license plate is intrinsically public information. It exists to identity a car in public. It exists exactly for purposes such if you see someone commit a crime in it you can identify the car.

There is no law forbidding public filming of a public place, especially for private use. A parking spot is public, the license plate is public, and so forth.

I'm not defending that nutjob at all btw.. just trying to make things straight that recording a public place and publicly visible info on a personal cell phone, is not illegal. You may get your ass kicked, but not by uncle Sam and the justice system.

I would just smile and wave , maybe greet them kindly. I just came for a massage and he can't prove I've done or will do anything wrong.

Best to just ignore the nutcase. His tactic seems to rely on shaming you.

I'd wear a mask. And park away like I almost always do. If he's 60+ and I see a weirdo follow me to my car across the block after Ive exited... I'd turn the jets on and see how well he runs while holding the camera. Obviously not an option for older gentlemen.

In some other illegal enterprises he'd just get his candy ass beat and his camera/phone taken/broken

Dude, I went by today and by the time I left, they had people fucking everywhere, and I mean everywhere. All the rooms were taken, plus they had someone in the hallway (which was closed off). I had to go out the back gate, and even there, there was an 80 year old monger with Honey. He didn't have his dick out yet, but I can't say I wasn't curious how it was going to go down with him at that age.

Funny discussion. Checked this place out recently to see for myself. Lots of parking lot traffic but no amateur photographer busy bodies. Door opened before I reached it and greeted by one milf hottie, but he gaggle of gals on the couches all held blankets over their heads? WTF? Is that normal? I only assumed that it was my greeters turn in rotation and they are blocking themselves as options.
