For those who haven't noticed, there is a new pinned thread from @rAMPage on top of this discussion page and the review page. The headline reads: "San Jose is not San Fran. All reviews will be rejected and you will be banned."
The body of the two posts read:
"There is not a San Jose section. Take this constant violation of the rules somewhere else. San Jose is not allowed to be reviewed on this site."
and
"There is not a San Jose forum. Stop writing reviews about San Jose, Go somewhere else that has a San Jose forum and stop fucking with this site."
I will humbly suggest that virtually nobody who posts reviews of providers in San Jose is doing so to fuck with this site or has/had any clue this was a violation of any rule.
San Francisco proper is very small -- 49 square miles and a population of approximately 815,000 people. The overwhelming majority of reviews (and discussion) on this site are for places and providers outside of the city of San Francisco. It's not just reviews for San Jose, it's the entire peninsula and Silicon Valley, the entire East Bay (Oakland, Fremont, Pleasanton, etc.) and the North Bay (San Rafael, the rest of Marin County, etc.). If reviews and discussion on this site are actually restricted to San Francisco itself, traffic on this part of the site could severely dwindle. I just looked at the first page of reviews and only ONE is for a place that's actually in San Francisco.
Those of us who live here (I live in the city itself) often hobby all over the area, which has an official designation as the San Francisco Bay Area, which is comprised of the nine counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay. San Jose is part of the SF Bay Area. More on that here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Bay_Area
I love this site and I love the San Francisco section, but I fear its utility would be vastly diminished if reviews and discussion were restricted to only the city of San Francisco. I don't know if something behind the scenes was the impetus for these pinned announcements, but without knowing anything else I would humbly suggest that the San Francisco section be inclusive of the entire SF Bay Area, as virtually all of its local participants have considered it. This is just one member's opinion. Thanks for reading.
