I think it is a matter of expectation... he should have just asked upfront before getting undressed about the specific menu items... I encountered the same situation before - and the let down at the end was not pleasant - and I learned my lessons.

Agree. Don't just expect all the good things will be served automatically when you visit a place for the first time. You need to let them know what you need. And it's all up to you.
