These places sometimes just start spiraling down: not much business, can't support more than one provider, can't retain talented and/or very attractive staff, so they end up with a so-so provider working alone, who must manage everything and gets distracted; mediocre service leads to mediocre reviews leads to less business, and so on.
I'm not at all surprised that the door was locked given that it was evening and she was working alone.
Can't blame her too much for being paranoid, for the reasons mentioned; too bad she doesn't realize that constantly distracting herself with monitoring is really bad for business and leads to no repeat visits.
The reason they advertise so much is that business is bad and they want to draw in new customers, even if for a single visit not to repeat.
