What I have started to do is to only drive in for appointments at 7pm or later. On the side streets near AD, free street parking opens up at 7pm.

Yeah, parking can be pretty bad on the weekends depending on time. Once you drive a lot in Manhattan you get used to the areas and times to look for spots. As Kpop mentioned, most metered spots in Manhattan will not need a meter starting at 7pm on weeknights do that's prime time to swoop in and get a spot for free.

SUNDAY is also a better time for street parking in the area. Most of the do not park rules are suspended plus no meter feeding needed.

My friend works for mount sinai so back then i was always in the city. But you're right i hardly ever drive into midtown. The only time i actually used a car was when my friend would hobby with me, then i would just ride with him and somehow he always found parking. And he has a lifted F150 lmao. But the time i go with my own car on a sunday, there's zero parking. Just going round and round for an hour only to end up in a parking lot that i have to pay for anyway.

That's why whenever i go i just uber instead. It ends up costing more money (about 80-100 bucks round trip) but i get a direct shot to the place and a direct shot back home. No need to wait. It pays for convenience i suppose.

Everything the guys said is accurate, just to add to it, it also depends what time you come on the weekend..I’ve noticed Saturday’s by noon and later it’s rough but you can still find a meter parking a couple blocks from AD and the other ones in the area. Usually I go for 2nd ave or even better Madison and just walk the few blocks. Sunday’s I’ve gotten into a habit of coming into the city in the morning and it’s empty lol

Weekdays are a complete disaster unfortunately in the midday hours so that’s when I don’t bother driving in, almost every meter is for commercial vehicles during the day and parking garages charge extra cause I got a SUV..Parking at the meters after 7 is free like they said, but I don’t monger that late unfortunately

I always drive into the city to hobby and only on weekends. The only good thing about this virus shit has been the availability of street parking. Saturday's I find plenty of metered parking in midtown, usually find the 6 hour locations and dump $10-$15 for three hours or so then just hoof it around. With free parking on Sunday's it use to be a real chore to find a spot, not anymore.

When i hobby in the city, i'm there early morning. If i could get a special requested earlier than opening slot, i'm there super super early. When i took my car, i literally got into the city at 9am because i knew i needed time to look for parking. 9:50 i'm still looking for parking. Ended up using an indoor garage 3 blocks away from the spot. Appointment was 10:15am so i just made it in time.

But to be fair, some streets were closed that morning, i think because of a "walk" or marathon or whatever festival thing they were having. Going home later that morning it was actually quicker oddly.

I don't think i'll ever bring my car in the city ever again for a solo visit. If my friend comes with me, he can drive and let him look for parking. Otherwise i rather just pay a bit more and use uber. No time wasted.

Damn then maybe it is the COVID thing that makes it easier to park on weekends, like @cutterman said. I didn’t drive in to the city pre-pandemic because I didn’t monger at the same places I do now

I've been driving to/from the city regularly since covid hit. In late March, barely any traffic, in the past couple months though it's started to pick up a lot, and with many restaurants doing outside street dining there are less spots than normal. The amount of traffic is nowhere near pre-covid, but don't get the idea that it's empty.

I honestly didn't hobby in the city during the peak of COVID so i can't compare pre and post. But If the traffic was anything like what i saw during the beginning and peak of it, i would imagine even NYC was a ghost town. But i also remember a lot of places closed during this time.

I was merely basing my experiences on pre-COVID. I suppose i picked the wrong sunday to take my car that time, because when i uber, it seems much easier. And faster. But then again i don't have to worry about parking. I just get dropped off around the block of "x" spot.

You could do donuts on 5th ave. if you want. Had to take a leak so I went to Grand Central, just about everything downstairs is closed, must have seen 20 people tops in the whole place.
