Me too - with facial recognition tech as good as it is now, you may as well send them a pic of your DL, home address, work ID, and all social media handles combined in one convenient package. Any alternatives to that?

I'm not sure what the deciding factor is on how stringent the screening process is, but I didn't undergo any screening to see BIN.

But again, most of these places have some backend directory that they can cross-reference your phone number with and is probably what happened in my case.

That's a good point. Just because a certain person doesn't get screened, that doesn't mean that the place doesn't screen.
