Before the Feds shut them down, what a smorgasbord of gals! Sort of a DIY combination of Twitter, OnlyFans and SA, you could find a little of anything, always new ads, lots of independents, and relatively few amps with fake pics.

It was always fun sifting through the backpage ads, like perusing in a candy shop.
You could quickly learn to spot the scams, the fake photos, how to translate the text:
“Curvy” = fat
“Italian“ = Puerto Rican
“25” = 38
“Open minded” = I’ll do anything, I’m desperate
“420-friendly” = please bring drugs, I need to get high!
Etc... but through all that, many new, young and interesting prospects.

Nowadays bedpage and adultsearch are 95% amps and fake photos, list crawl is pure low-end, Tryst is ludicrously over-priced and over-produced, Eros the same, with lots of scam ads, SA isn’t for the faint-of-heart who don’t have many hours a week to sift through all the entitled divas, looking for one girl who’ll give it up for what you’d pay in an amp...

And of course the amps themselves are increasingly marketing 35-year old pros with bolt-ons who’ve been around the block multiple times, while pulling us in with photos of tender, dewy 20 year olds.

If it weren’t for the bliss that comes post-coital, there’d be a general revolt among mongers!

you nailed that! i should've saved the quotation, but a provider predicted in a post at the time that shuttering bckpage would less successfully thwart human trafficking than force escorts into hiding and force massage providers into offering FS. which has deterred many indies who might've dabbled in the biz temporarily, or dabbled and then "went pro." even at the credible massage places that have remained, the rotating cast not as diverse as formerly. the parallel result was a place like Tryst, which while very hiqual and reliable, often starts at a luxurious price point that excludes many clients and inflates the status of some providers who haven't reached that echelon yet.

I remember picking up a Village Voice in High School and being shocked at the back section. It wasn't until years later that I had my first incall experience who I actually bumped into last year lol. There were a few scams in the paper but like you said the uncertainty was what made it fun.
