On the heels of learning about the undercover bust on 86th and Roosevelt the other night, I decided to just take a slow drive by the block to see if everyone was freaked out and hunkering down. Uhhhh. NO. Quite the opposite, the only thing I've seen kind of like it is video of the bar girls in Thailand. The ones in packs who pull men into the place for drinks. As I'm driving up Roosevelt in the 70s, I appreciate that it's so hot that all of the AMP providers are outside trying to drum up business and you get a GOOD look at them in full light. Not great at all.
Then I hit around 86th street and the show starts. On the block of 88th was a very nice assortment all decked out in their Sunday night best dresses. It was like a classier version of Hunts Point. A couple of very pretty ones in the pack. But while I definitely appreciate the fact that you get to choose the one you want from afar, the realization that everyone passing by on the street is also watching you pick definitely struck. I loved the transparency but it was a little TOO transparent. Had it not been for the bust, I may have parked and taken a shot with the cute spinner in the peach-colored dress but I kept driving. The older one in the black dress who looked like the ringleader was chatting up an ese who looked like he just got off his shift and wanted to get off.
Funny...I get up into the upper 90s and stop at a red light and I see a guy who clearly looked like he was traveling to or from somewhere with suitcase in hand. I see this very cute Latina come up to him and start chatting him up and by her smiling and body language, I can tell that she didn't know him but she was propositioning him. Then I thought to myself 'is she a cute little Guatemalan trying to supplement her income....or is that Officer Gutierrez about to make another undercover bust?'
In all, Roosevelt Avenue is definitely turning into a much more visible marketplace for anything you want and the time to take advantage of that free of Uncle Leo's machinations may have already passed. I noticed quite a few fit men just sitting in Ford vehicles doing nothing but looking around. Hey, Officer. Would you like a donut?
VERY tempting but not very safe if you don't to be the next name in the paper. It's a little too risk-heavy for my blood.
So overall, if you boys are game, those girls are game. Just watch out for the umps.
