P411 and fraud?

I have a bank account and associated debit card, opened a year ago, that I only use for the hobby and every transaction EVER has been through a bank ATM for cash except for one: P411. Just today, several unauthorized small transactions appeared using this debit card, which my bank quickly identified as fraud. My bad for paying with a debit card instead of a gift card. But, anyone else suspect P411 of selling their info to thieves?

Hard to know. First and foremost do you have EMV?

Then they could be a prime suspect. Why didn't you use Vanilla card or gift card? They don't accept it?
P411 stopped accepting visa/master prepaid almost two years ago due to fees.. unless its a international prepaid card.. never noticed until I went to local cvs and looked at fine print and it said “only valid in USA”

Were the transactions at POS physical vendors, ATMs or online? I think that the chip is not really necessary for low value transactions.

Two possibilities jump to mind--neither of which are good. Either (A) P411 is selling data or was hacked, or B) you were using public WiFi when you entered the information and someone was able to intercept that communication (and maybe others?)

Not much you can do about case A, but maybe start using a VPN when on wifi?

I have been a P411 member for a very long time with no issues.

I would definately look at wifi credit card or banking as a possibility. I have had issues with that in the past.

here's the thing. All my ATM tansactions in US were at my local bank (one of the US's largest) and I use my other debit cards there all the time with no issues. i did use it in Europe back in Sept at several bank ATMs. But I have not used it with any non-bank vendor except p411. I use my other cards for other accoutns all the time and never had an issue.

I see i hadn't answered fully... well, I don't know much about the bank atms in Europe but all fraudulent charges were in Usa. I never use public wifi and never use mobile 4G banking and I never used any non bank atm or vendor except p411. So it was either a compromised atm in Europe and I was super unlucky or it was an illegal purveyor of flesh. U decide. Buyer beware.

It might be P411. But it could have been compromised in Europe, but your info was sold to and used by someone in the US.
