Hello fellow mongers. A close friend of mine ( a long time monger) was just diaganoised with HVP 16. Is DATY really dangerous? I enjoy giving a woman pleasure and would hate to give it up as part of my mngering activities. Any thoughts?

As long you are cool with herpes
Know anyone that got herpes from a BBj from a hooker?

“We get frequent questions about STD/HIV risks associated with oral sex. The consistent answer is that oral sex can be considered safe sex, because of generally low risks for all STDs and zero risk for some. Sometimes this seems to conflict with other advice, perhaps especially in settings where social or religious conservatism influence school based and other education that tend to inflate the risks associated with sex of any kind. But the fact is that even among the most sexually active people with multiple partners (including sex workers), most have no transmissible oral STDs; and that the vast majority of oral sex events do not lead to any STD. Accordingly, we almost never recommend STD testing after any single oral sex exposure unless there are symptoms, or sometimes if the partner is known to be infected. We also generally recommend that people with such exposures can safely continue their normal sexual practices with their regular partners. While of course there can be no guarantees along these lines, in general the risk is low enough that it shouldn't be a serious worry.

These issues are discussed in more detail in the threads below (one of which contains links to still other threads) -- and go into more detail about specific STDs related to oral sex. Please take a look at them.

re: herpes from bbbj. Oral herpes (cold sores) is a different strain from the genital variety, and while it is possible to get the oral strain on the genitals, it is rare for it to develop there.

I am a scientist and advise you read the info on CDC website.

Mucus membranes in contact can transmit disease, assuming one person has one. Therefore my opinion, DATY likely more risky (larger surface areas, and friction induced microtears). I opt for safety.

Make your decisions informed ones, just know that a small risk is still a risk.

Surely you meant to spell it Mucous membranes and yes there is risk in this hobby but I (like others in this thread) have performed DATY for many years without contracting any diseases so the fearmongering is serving your own interests and justification for not doing it as opposed to trying to help us fellow mongers. Furthermore, some people enjoy the "high-risk high-reward" model of this hobby.

Congratulations on your health. I provided reasonable scientific reference information for those who may need it. Why react so defensively? Anyway, I am not here to win any arguments, so peace out and enjoy your choices.

@Dreamseekers, I am sorry to hear about your friend. HPV16 is a very common virus that effects nearly everyone at some point. Chances are you, me and anyone else spending all of or time avoiding sex or having safe sex will contract this virus.
