In my experience so far, it can be divided into two categories. People from South Korea and people from North Korea and China.
Of course, not everyone is like that, but some people from Korea come because they have a bad family situation, but they usually come for a while because they need money without realizing it. Therefore, most of them are ordinary students and single mothers rather than those who worked here from Korea. They go back to being normal people.
Second, there are Korean women living in China and women coming from North Korea.
To be honest, these ladies are better at work. In my experience this is true.
But the biggest reason seems to be single mothers.In Korea, raising a baby after a divorce is still financially difficult...

Why isn't there an influx of eastern european women coming here to do this work? I imagine there are form soviet bloc countries with hot girls in dire straits, why aren't they coming here to work?
I think it's somethign unique about Asian culture, they just don't have the stigma that other cultures do. (You don't see middle eastern girls doing this either.)

As somebody who grew up in Europe, I can tell you that in Europe the majority of girls are from Eastern Europe. Living conditions for girls in Ukraine or Russia is by far worse than in SK. There is no need for them to go all the way to the US since there is demand all over Europe and the pay is similar in Westerj European countries. Also, it is legal or at least not executed, so they don’t need to be worried about being arrested.
Yes, 100% true, the obsession with money, looking rich and projecting wealth regardless whether you actually have money or not is HUGE in modern day Asian culture. This means besides luxury goods, spending money you don’t have at trendy restaurants, activities etc. with your friends so you don’t look poor. you can’t maintain this lifestyle without the cash flow to support it.
I’m Japanese and it’s the same issues there.
