I'll probably get dinged for this, but the tracking issue is way overblown.

Go about your business and live your life. I always say: if you want to come after me for some transgression I don't even know of, then be prepared for a fight because that's how I roll.

Gents - You've been tracked for the past two decades. Welcome to the 21st century.
  • Every time you agree to a privacy policy on a website, you have agreed to them controlling your privacy including location information
  • There's about 300 companies actively using your location data to target ads based on your clicking and scrolling patterns
  • Your Internet service provider compiles the list of sites you go to (when not using a VPN) and sells it to the marketing/tracking companies
  • Your car's navigation system that is communicating information back to whomever controls that software
  • Your EZpass tag is scanned as you drive around, not just when you pay tolls
  • Your license plate is scanned regularly
  • Your Metrocard or whatever fare card you use for trains is tied to your credit card and sometimes a picture of you in the train station
  • Your phone has been tracked since the moment you turned on the GPS feature (both iPhone and Android)
  • Even if you don't turn on GPS, you bounce off three cell towers and your location can be triangulated
  • Lastly, your correlation pattern is on file with three letter agencies they can predict your movements based on all the tracking data I listed above
The reality is that none of this matters if you blend into the crowd and live your life normally. Your tracking data is buried in the mountain of everyone's data that nobody cares about until you change all your online tags to "Pablo Escobar" and try to recreate is illegal empire. Don't do things that attract attention like getting off the grid with all cash transactions or trying to live your life with Bitcoin and you'll be fine.

If all this still worries you, go to places that accept walk-ins, park about one block away and leave your phone turned on in your car. That will be your last significant location with Apple (and Google which has a similar feature).

If your still scared, leave your phone at home and use a bicycle.... and not an electric one as those have tracking features too.

Tracking and privacy come up a lot in this forums and on prior Spa-oriented sites. You can look at these two older threads for more info. Take some time to check out the views from other members on how to be truly anonymous online (TOR browsers, VPN Kill Switches, plus lots of personal discipline). Just be sure to differentiate the fear-based opinions from the members that actually know how technology works.
