The police aren’t the main problem here. Let’s say you are stupid enough to use your legitimate profile and correspond with a provider. You would leave yourself open to multiple opportunities for blackmail and confrontation should you run into a psycho. In order to see the profile, you have to be loosely connected in some way or they have to have the premium service. They can easily figure out a fake one, which defeats the whole purpose of using LinkedIn as a reference in the first place.
