A few years ago, I contacted someone off of Backpage and was supposed to meet up at a local hotel. Something came up and I could not meet up. Later that evening I got a text telling me that it was the local LE and that I was committing a crime by solicitating via text message. I am so glad that I was not able to meet up with that "chick" that was really LEO doing a sting.
They said you were committing a crime, but then nothing happened to you?

I don't remember exactly what they said but the text said that it was a warning telling me not to do it again because I could be arrested. I immediately did a search online and found out that some LEA text anyone that did not show up to their sting when they wrap up their day/night. It seems like they do it as a way to intimidate anyone who contacted them.

While this was most likely a scam and I should let this thread die, my personal advice would be don't answer, call back or text back EVER if it's LEO. If they want they can come to your house and knock and talk to which unless they have a warrant you tell them to have a nice a nice day. If by chance they have a warrant get cuffed go to police station and shut the fuck up the whole time. There is never an upside to talking the state with out an attorney present, even better let the attorney speak for you. Even the most innocuous comment you make will be used against in ways you can't imagine. This is general life advice beyond the hobby.

They will never call you or text you. If anything, you are going to busted at the spot or they will pay a visit to where you live/work, if the case is serious.

Pretty sure if it’s legit the feds wouldn’t be calling you on the phone.
It would be in person.
I’m going with its fake.
nah, they do.... then they force your hand so that you don't have much choice but to not meet them. if you visited a place that was under surveillance they likely pulled your tags etc. this is especially true if it was an agency type thing. best case, they're looking for a new lead... I doubt you are in trouble.
if you were really in trouble, they wouldn't be calling on the phone. they'd be showing up at your work. either way, I'd block the number, if your voicemail has a name in it, take it off, and carry on. if they really want you they'll call from another number and buzz by your house and threaten to come to your work.

a city in MD did something like this in a SW area, except they were sending snail mail letters home!

It's very easy to fake a caller ID number. It's fake. If it was the feds they would have knocked down your door by now. Or at least knock if they wanted to ask questions. They don't make phone calls.

Chances are one of the numbers you called is part of a scam. They will ask you for money so you don't get arrested. Which is a very known scam. Nothing to worry about, just block the number.

If you answer the scammer will try to extort you for money. I just saw an article and this was listed on the top 20 known scams to the FBI. One of the numbers you called was fake and part of the scam.
