Flushing vs Queens

As a born and bred New Yorker and currently a Bronx resident, I’m confused about why some reviews are in Queens and others in Flushing, which is clearly in Queens. What is the geographic contour of Flushing for this website?

You're correct. However since Flushing has so many many AMPs, the mods have chosen to make it a separate category, and use Queens as anything in Queens other than Flushing
Thanks. To me Flushing is the immediate surrounding area of the 1964 world’s fair, which certainly includes the Rosie corridor, but not areas like Little Neck, where I recall reviews being posted. Probably also a generation thing: those of us beginning to drive in the 70s may have had other visual goalposts.

My unofficial boundaries for Flushing are The Van Wyck to 164 st and Union Turnpike to 32 Ave.

Same as the one on all maps. But that's not issue. The issue is members who haven't quite agreed to respect those boundaries. It's an easy fix, but more work for the Mods, if the forum software allowed threads to be moved.

Posted this somewhere else, but re-posting it here again:

While Bayside is still technically Flushing, for the purposes of our site, we decided to use "Flushing" for all areas east of the Corona/Flushing border (Grand Central Parkway), and west of approximately 192nd St, since the greater Main Street area is so large, in terms of volume of providers, establishments, and reviews.

All other areas of Queens including LIC to Corona, and then Auburndale/Bayside to Little Neck, we're calling Queens...and that includes Astoria, Woodside, Elmhurst, Rego Park, Kew Gardens, Ozone Park, Whitestone, etc.

Not a perfect system, we realize, but that's the current rationale.

Also, this: https://www.ampreviews.net/index.ph...ed-new-york-forum-layout.145837/#post-1021237

Generally agree with this but how do you define "Flushing"? My general view is that any location from Prince/Main Street/Citi Field is the starting point of Flushing, and moving eastward, generally ends right around 201th Street & Northern Blvd or so. Auburndale area is right at the border of Flushing and Bayside. Though even more confusing is that while you can address Bayside on an envelope, it's still considered (Eastern) Flushing to some.

Eastern Queens is Bayside, Douglaston, and Little Neck. Great Neck is generally the first town in Nassau County/Long Island.

It has to do with the area and has nothing to do with the town, just like Chinatown/Manhattan or Flatbush/Brooklyn.

Yes, but this website has only 1 section each for Manhattan and Brooklyn, and 2 for Queens, which led to the original question.

Queens is huge. I don't know how many neighborhoods. Flushing has a lot going on. If I remember correctly, the "Queens" category is the one that was added recently. Before that, there was only a Flushing section, because Flushing had a lot going on.

But Queens is huge. And there are things going on outside of Flushing. So the mods added a Queens section. Seems helpful in my opinion.

The things guys will get worked up about, including geography, lol. Let's all take a deep breath and settle down now, and knock it off with the name-calling, please.

I though I had answered the question already but to further clarify, Queens is broken up into two sections...a dedicated Flushing section, and the rest of Queens. Simply because Flushing is such a huge area in terms of variety, number of AMPs, agencies, storefronts, streetwalkers, apartments, etc. that we felt it needed its own section. For example, there's a large subset of members who are very interested in the 40th Rd crowd, while some members wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Which is why we felt that breaking out just Flushing (or more accurately, leaving Flushing and creating a "Queens" section for all other areas outside of Flushing) was apt.

Yes, you can make the argument that Chinatown in Manhattan should be its own section as well. But I don't think it has nearly the volume of places and reviews to warrant its own, dedicated section. Also, while ideally I would like Manhattan to be broken up into 3 separate areas (Uptown, Midtown, Downtown...and I'm sure there will be arguments about what streets and areas constitute those 3 areas, lol), it's easier said than done. Because creating sections is no problem whatsoever...but then having to MANUALLY sort ALL the reviews in the one Manhattan section, and then moving them into the proper 3 sub-areas, is a massive undertaking that I'm not sure we have the time, manpower, nor desire to do. Does that make sense?
