Define downtown Brooklyn because no one really knows where that actually is these days.
In the last 30 years, I have lived in five of the six neighborhoods that abut downtown. Fairly confident that when most people say downtown Brooklyn, they are usually talking about the area between Court St/Cadman Plaza West and Flatbush Ave, and betweem Atlantic Ave and Tillary (although you could argue it extends to include all the way to Sands street on the north and Ashland Place on the east.) There is some overlap with Boerum Hill (which is kind of a weird neighborhood made up for gentrifiers back in the 1970s or so I have been told), as that includes State Street for sure. So maybe carve out the eight blocks between Atlantic and Schermhorn from downtown.

The whole Barclays center is such a new thing that I am not sure there is a consensus on whether that area (say 3rd Ave to Vanderbilt along Atlantic Ave) is part of downtown or maybe should be something else.
