Chris Rock is a joke man, paid by the academy to make jokes and he’s good at it. His forte is making fun of the absurdity of those special souls in society that have gained so much privilege by being famous that they’ve lost the ability to laugh at themselves… and he’s good at it. Will Smith used to be a joke man too (not nearly as talented as Rock) so he should understand but now he’s become “American Royalty” for being good at playing “make believe” and has lost the ability to laugh at himself. His outburst, I’m sure, was more a manifestation of having been humiliated publicly by his own wife than a dumb joke about a malady (not disease) than millions of people deal with on a daily basis.
This wasn't a random comedy show. Yes there is fair game, but jokes about a disease?
I don't care about who she banged half of the NFL. Or if she was a double anal specialist in porn. That doesn't give people permission to ridicule her over her disease. You could clearly tell she was horrified. What are you going to do as a husband? If someone ridiculed your child to the point of tears. Right in front of you and in front of a whole bunch of people. What exactly did Rock expect to happen? What is Smith's options? Don't react your a pussy for not defending your wife. React and now your in this mess.
Where is the line of decency? Can we make fun of wounded warriors? Hey buddy where is your leg? You kind of fast for a guy that walks on you hands. Do you smell people's farts more now, down there? Oh, I was only joking! Can't you take a joke?
I am not a prude and this wasn't a random joke. Rock had to prepare these jokes. It was the Oscars after all. Rock needs to own his part. He wasn't completely innocent in this. I wasn't just a random joke.
Comparing a hair loss joke by a paid comedian at an award show where he is paid to make fun of the humorless talent to joking with a soldier about his lost leg is a bullshit comparison. Will Smith wasn’t in an impossible situation. He a rich, privileged mofo millionaire who should’ve handled the situation like an adult and if you think that’s “being a pussy” perhaps you have some issues that need working out.
Out in the street all of what you said may apply, it depends on the quality of the man. But at this point, even Will Smith doesn’t agree with you. i think his apology was weak and unconvincing. But he tried.

I am perplexed why it has become such an issue. He was wrong and is ready for consequences and goes to bed still worth 100s of millions. Did anyone forget we are a few bad decision from nuclear annihilation? If this is the way the world ends I think we deserve it. Whatever race of animals evolves from the dust will do a better job shepherding this planet.
Ya know . . . been thinking (wow brain working) about this - What he did was wrong for many reasons. No “actor” gets the award without the thousands of hard working people from top to bottom. The high (obscene) moneymaker actor is just a love BOT “make millions for investors” who enriches him-them. The professional trades work 24/6 and all deserve credit for their skills, dedication, long hours . . . and marginal salary. So don’t deprive them of the Oscar. His career is toast. The Oscar for him will always be tainted. Slap another person in front of billions all over the planet - fucking idiot. He should go to a nice AMP and slap ASS (nicely). If not, MM will insert his Oscar in places unknown. So the next time you are with your favorite AMP - give a tip and Oscar!
I love G.I. Jane and Demi Moore. She was awesome in this movie. Will Smith is old enough to understand this was a cool movie and Chris meant it as a compliment. Jada is outclassed in everyway by Demi Moore and she should feel pretty good about the comparison. Also, Demi is a much nicer person than Jada...
