Hey everyone. My buddies and I are planning a trip to Colombia. Has anyone been there lately? Heard that the new mayor of Cartagena is trying to put a stop to this hobby. Shutting down the clubs and all. Can anyone confirm or deny that this is happening? If we skip Cartagena, would we still have a great time if we only go to Medellin? Any recommendations?

Colombia - Medellin or Cartagena

Have been to Medellin many times, including last year. Never to Cartagena, I was interested in it a few years ago but every time I got more info it just seemed inferior to Medellin so I never pulled the trigger.
Tons of good restaurants and night life in Medellin. Some of the clubs around Parque Lleras (not Gustos though) have cute chicas providing social time on site if you buy them a drink at around 50K. You can hang out and chat and dirty dance with them, and some will give you their number. I never pulled one from here, but sense it could be an untapped gold mine. Also many options for good semi-professional massage with options with good looking chicas. Loutron up the hill is high end and worth a visit daytime, full menu. I never bothered with the lower end scene. La Isla, Fase II and Luna Lunera are good night club spots filled with chicas. La Isla is the biggest with 50-80 girls on a good night. As an example, a night at La Isla would run about 800K to 900K COP total ($210-230 USD) for entry, drinks for you and a chica, tips to the dancers as they walk around after stage, and about 45 minutes in one of the adjacent on-site rooms. I noticed a bit of a trend for some chicas not providing bbbj, so def have to negotiate that detail up front.
Like most places you have to do the work to sift through the venues and options and find the gems that check your boxes. Over a few trips I developed a short list of favorites with phenomenal mileage who I had over to my AirBNB for an hour, a few hours with a movie, maybe dinner too, or overnight. One is a solid 9 Instagram girl. Had many phenomenal times. Definitely do your research and navigate prudently to ensure you stay safe.

Look back in my post history I dropped a detailed guide on Cartagena up to date as of December. Yes the new mayor brought some changes but the girls are still on Playa Hollywood and near the clock tower: Delirium, Empire, & some of the clubs are running back in regular mode. There’s less mongers now so take advantage.
Cartagena has a lot more people trying to rip you off, it being a beach area makes things slightly more expensive. I walked around Medellin all hours of the night (with my friends) and we never felt unsafe, but we are from NYC. You only get scoped and robbed if you do stupid stuff like go to Centro at night or meet with random Tinder girls, stick with established locations and you will be safe.
Thank you for saying this. Also from NJ/NYC and we've never had problems. In our defense, we don't look like meals to predators. The people that rob know exactly who's an easy mark and who isn't. Stop walking around looking like a helpless mole and you should be fine. I work in Midtown and always shocked when these ripoff artists can get tourists in Time's Square to hand them money.
Been to Cartegena several times since 2017, there’s an overage of people left and right trying to sell you things, after 2019 I saw more and more kids being used (ages 4 and up) selling you bracelets, maps, hats, anything. And watch your pockets a lot of that is a distraction. Minus all the touristy stuff, Cartegena, the people, the culture, especially within the main city walls is a beautiful place.
We bonded with our cabby pretty good and have been connected with him since 2017, showed us around, got us connected with our air bnb just and both of them hooked us up with food, drinks, women. The first time we met it was right out of a movie, brought in 10-15 for us to choose from and they all hopped in a van and were dropped off at our place.
Aside from that, if things are how they were (I haven’t been back since late 2021) that main clock tower you see in mosts photos, we call that the meat market lol, at night that’s where most of the rooftop clubs are in that square and the girlies are out there all night dressed to their best ready to choose or be chosen. Had some great times. The beach area is very active during the day too, easy to arrange meets in the evenings you’re just dealing with outsiders at that point that could be employed by some shady people so as in any dealings like this, be careful.

I am actually in Cartegena right now. (My first trip). They are trying to clean up the old town area (by the clock tower). The popular clubs to get girls (delirium and dolce vita) has been closed down.
They have police standing on the streets. You still see a lot of street walkers walking around but if you try to talk to them and the police see you. They will come and break you up. I don’t think they will arrest you, they will just tell the girls to move along. You can still get them by signaling them to follow you and find a street with no police officer to start the conversation.

The place is nice. The girls are pretty nice. The regular staff is aggressive on asking for tips which is kind of annoying. Also they have so much security it’s like you are walking into a drug dealers mansion or something.
Street walkers on average is asking for $100 for an hour. The marine club is $115 for 30 min (they supply you the rooms, condoms towels and soap) Or you can take the girl home for $255. They will stay with you for 6 hours.
