Can massage be dangerous?

I had a decent session the other day (not going to post a review, since I already reviewed this person before). She did a back walk... while on one hand it feels good she pushed so hard on my upper back that I felt like I was choking in the hole in the table. For a little bit I had trouble breathing. I know I could have said stop (or tried too while choking) but figured just calm down she will move on to another body part soon enough. Everything ended up fine, but it got me thinking. Sure anything can be dangerous but should I worry about this? Like a crushed trachea or some kind of injury from the pressure being too hard and not being aligned perfectly on the table or something. I also read awhile ago about a guy who got a blood clot and he thought it was from a massage which caused a long term recovery. Just curious if anyone has any experiences where they got hurt and what sort of injury you got. The older I get the more I worry about this. I love a massage but I don't want to have a problem. Wondering how real my fears are or if I'm just being paranoid.

“The older I get” it is something to be concerned about, especially back walk. I’ve had providers tell me that getting a back walk isn’t a good idea and most amps don’t have the overhead bars for a reason. I’ve also noticed that some when they ask if you want hard massage, they will jump up and try to back walk without the overhead bars which isn’t a good idea as they tend to balance and rebalance themselves on your back. These days I tend to shy away from backwalks. If I find a petite, skilled backwalker, I may give her a try.

Yea it's tough for me because I have chronic pain and I am addicted to therapeutic massage, if I don't have one weekly I feel noticeably worse. I guess I should probably tell the stronger ladies to ease up a bit. So far nothing bad has happened to me (outside of bruising on my nose which happens a lot from the table and being pushed). It seems no matter how I position myself I always get hurt a little. I always view this as a worthwhile trade to the relief but I hope I am not fooling myself and putting myself at some kind of risk going for TM so much...

Sky at HH for the power stretch. That’s way better than any back walking.
After she stretched me out, I practically floated out of there. No risk of injury either.
Sounds interesting. I’ve only met two that do a really good stretch. They had all kinds of positions they would put me in. Please tell me more about Sky’s technique. How long and how varied are her stretches? Does she use more than her hands to stretch? Thanks.

Just go and try, trust us she won’t disappoint, massage or anything else

Appreciate the input guys. I didn't intend to solely make this about the back walk. I have had many aggressive TM where the pressure really was beyond what I considered therapeutic. I usually tell them to ease up a bit if it gets that bad. Was just curious if anyone who is "average" (not a ton of health issues) had any injuries/problems as a result of getting strong therapeutic massages on a regular basis.

As far as standard TM, I've been told be more than one doc that everything is pretty well protected inside the ribcage. A TM would have to be pretty extreme to threaten any organs. (insert juvenile humor here.)

That said, I'm not a fan of the "pounding" technique, where they use the lower edge of both of their open hands to alternately hit you. If they do that to my back, I'll usually ask them not to. (I do have some vascular issues.)

I've had some horrid times on the table to the point I just wanted it to end. Most of these girls have no formal training and really don't care about anything but the money. Very few put in the time to be better at what they do. Just like the mechanical ending. A bad rub can really fuck you up.

That said I have had some very enjoyable times with girls that obviously knew what they were doing. I've talked to some that actually do ongoing training and they do many other things than message (Besides that!) Back walking by an experienced 98 pounder can be very nice.

My favorite part is when the masseuse is poking at your Latetal glutes with enough pressure to slide you sideways, just hammering the sciatic nerve. When you tell them to stop, it hurts, they tell you that you must have a problem there. Yeah you do, the problem is her. Just stop it!

But I do like foot pain during a foot massage.

I laughed. But you hit on a good point. I do think many of them make shit up as they go along. There are some very skilled ones, just like anything, but even they can push it too far. I guess I have to be better at communicating when the pressure is too much. I love TM, I just worry they can cause a blood clot or something if they are too aggressive. Glad to hear no one reporting something like that.
