Hushed is a neat app based softphone that can do mms and sms and phone calls. It also keeps the number until you destroy it or allows you to make multiple numbers of need be. You can find deals online for lifetime numbers and if you’re worried about not hiding it or whatnot you can delete and reinstall as needed.

Revisiting this thread. If I want to buy a set number of minutes and texts that don't expire, instead of paying a monthly fee, is that an option? If so what brand are good? I've been looking around and all I'm seeing are plans that last for 30 or 90 days. I just want to make a one time purchase and use until the minutes are used up. Is that possible?

No such thing anymore to be honest.

Here's your options for best alternatives.

I used to use Tracfone but they catch you with "Service Days"
Let's say you just want to keep the number.

$99 will get you 365 Service days. 400 minutes/text/web to your account. You can use those 400 minutes any time in that 1 year period.
If you use it all up, you can top up individual parts which are more cost effective like $5 for 1000 text but that won't add service days.
So you could have 2000 texts on the account paid databuckets that carries over as much as you paid for but no service days and you lose that line.
If you math it out, it's about 8.2~8.5 month to keep your line active.
If you're low volume that's not bad since it's about keeping the number LOL

Which lead me to port out.
Tmobile had a pay as you go which is no longer available. Sorry!
$3/month for 30 text/minutes per month. No Data.
which is $36 a year but you're limited. Bad if you get text spams since these days everyone charges both in and outgoing texts.
Back then you only paid for incoming on Cingular.
I have this right now and plan to keep it because that's the lowest price point in keeping a line active right now that is no longer available.

Which leaves the final option which is the best option unless someone can find a more frugal service.

RedPocket. I also have this on the tmobile network.
They sell on Ebay a $5/month plan.
100 min/text/500mb data per month.
so $60 for a year.
You can pick which carrier to use.

For AMPs I give them my TextFree number in case my burner phone runs out of power I can logon it from another phone, I give the girls my sim carded number.

Sheesh, I thought I was pretty up on this stuff but you schooled me, lol! Well done, man!

I didn’t know the $3/month T-Mobile deal was no longer offered. Are you sure?

Tracfone for me. If you have a smart phone and want to use data, it’s 125 for the 1-year of continuous service. Or $12.50/month if you go in 60-day increments.

I’m like the OP - I hardly ever use it but want to keep the number over multiple months. Wish someone had the true pay-as-you-go option!

They killed it few months back. It's absolutely gone now.

If you check Tracfone's plans, they have a thing that says "Service Days" So that's basically a sneaky way to make it a monthly plan. Just it doesn't reset text/mins/data.

Note that the price is for BASIC phones.
9.99 gives you 30 service days. 30 minutes/text/data which sucks because that's overpaying for 1 month getting so little 30 minutes.

So the lowest price you get is - assuming in 90 days you use less than 60 minutes.
19.99 for 90 service days 60 minutes/text/data.
That works out to about $6.3/month to keep your line active so every 90 days you need to top up the $19.99 plan +60 minutes.

For tracfone you'd have to check which plan, the price I'm listing is for basic phone. You'd likely have to use the smartphone plan which makes the cost even higher.
I did mention data but doesn't matter since this isn't an option anymore. :)

Only TMobile PAYG don't have data. you'd have to pay $5/day or $10/week for a data pass.. That's why I said it's cheapest at $36 only to KEEP the LINE.
I hotspot off my main phone so I avoid needing to datapass.

I'm telling you now that you're better off doing RedPocket.

The upkeep is much more effective to not have to worry about carry over unless you expect to go over the limit.

because at $5 you're getting 100 min/text/ 500mb data that RESETS every month.

compared to Tracfone's $19.99 (on a basic phone) where you only have the 60 min/text/data. at $6.3

If that makes sense. Hope it helps.

The perk on Tracfone however is you can technically get a free phone by buying into the $99 plan but it's locked unless you have that phone on the line for the year to unlock.
I did that but fucked it up because I swapped in my other phone so the credit for the service days didn't go to the free/cheap phone I got from them.

I used to use Verizon prepaid $30 for 30 days unlimited texts, free calls after 7 and I think 100 minutes per month 6am-659pm. Very small internet data avaiable, forgot if incoming calls were free though during peak hours.

I use 2nd line and or text now.. I've been using my 2nd line for over 3 yrs wow. Time flies.

Anything simple from CVS or RiteAid. You just have to buy a prepaid card with it. The flip phones are great and only take about 10 minutes to set up the phone and activate the account. Like rog314, you leave that bad boy in your office and don't use any real information to set it up and you keep the history cleared and none's the wiser.

Depending on your home situation, I would NOT go with any app on your real phone. Technology glitches all the time and heaven forbid that a call or text slip through while you're in the shower or sitting at dinner with your family. I wouldn't even risk THE POSSIBILITY of that happening but everyone's home situation seems a little different.

Here, we have guys who want to date and marry these women and, on the other end of the spectrum, there are guys who risk their career, their business and their happy home life to get a little cake every now and then. Some leave the door open to the possibility that they may get caught (for subconscious reasons) and others, like us, don't ever want that possibility to exist. I say that as I type this on a separate, hidden browser that doesn't log history using a VPN.

When they call your number it states its a google voice number.
Those are settings that can be changed in Google Voice. There are other ways to find out if you're using a Google Voice number, but I highly doubt providers are aware of those.

Ironically, lots of non-AMP providers use Magic Jack or something similar, which is basically the same thing as Google Voice.

Which browser/VPN service do you use. I believe you have to pay for VPN, and there will be a record of payment on the Credit Card statement.
Is it ok to use incognito with Chrome and other mainstream browsers? Thanks.

I use Nord and there’s nothing salacious at all about using a VPN. It’s solid web security.

I have had several Samsung smart phone burners (they last about 2 years) with Verizon 40/mo and rarely run out of GBs (best coverage where I travel). Use cash only. I also install non tracking/encryption software, etc just to add some security. If my SO were ever to see it I just say I found it outside work or something and forgot to drop it at the desk.
The other benefit is using Tinder, wechat, bumble, SA, or whatever.
Btw, tinder and Instagram work well together. I've met 3 girls that way this year. Completely NSA, no $. Two were late 30s, both with nice bodies, one was too nervous, the other a great lay but a bit of a head case. The third was a young cute, tattooed bbw who has a thing for older gents. We smoked, drank and fucked, then she never returned my texts, Lol.
