I'm against a Texas Gov overwhelming my city with asylum applicants. Thanks to him, NYC ICE has a backlog until at least 2032, without hiring new ICE agents. Which means we're stuck with them for the next 8 years. And for the last fucking time, asylum applicants are not illegals. It's not a difficult distinction to remember.

first stop thinking of it as a rational movement that has intellectual consistency

it is a cult of ethnicity and since cults are religions religious "logic" apples
Just like the klansman and the person that works at the local homeless shelter can share the same church because they have internally a different mental image of what the church is the republicans all have different internal mental images of what the republican party is. The klansman's personal mental image of the church is that its fine with racism because "well its just facts" and at the same time the person that volunteers at the homeless shelter has an internal mental image that "jesus cares for all" the republican party members do the same mental gymnastics. To non racist republicans the racism in the party is not representative of an overall pattern, its not a feature of the party. To the racist the republican party is a ethnic supremacist organization and a vehicle to use to use the government as a weapon against races/groups they dont like. Just like the churchgoers ignore the church's role in child molestation , and the obvious insanity of promoting the idea that contraceptive is immoral/evil all republicans ignore the existence of parts of the the party they find distressing or incompatible with their internal mental image of the organization. There is only one organizing principle and idea they all share - conservative supremacy /power at all costs. They would rather destroy the nation itself than lose power permanently. In most of their minds they ARE the nation itself so without them it has no right to exist at all.

You see solomon use religious logic in this thread. He keeps saying I am baselessly calling the organization fascist despite me listing all of the ways they act fascist. Ive mentioned cheating in elections , attempting to stay in power illegally by force , and having members that openly display fascist symbols at republican rallies all while citing evidence for all of these things yet he cannot internalize these facts because it conflicts with his personal internalized version of the republican party.

When you deal with "religious logic" anything is possible. All you have to do is observe modern Christians making pictures of jesus riding dinosaurs , or publishing absurd opinions on evolution or listen to their beliefs about the afterlife - the ultimate delusion - death is the ultimate finality and nothing observed in the universe lasts forever - you can see with religious logic one can believe anything. The afterlife is especially stupid , what makes you think your consciousness is more important than a primordial black hole that formed shortly after the big bang and is responsible for the creation of an entire galaxy?

Is it any wonder that the majority of republicans are religious? They were raised to think with religious logic and cant think any other way.

BTW, look back in this discussion. I said from the very beginning the issue is how easy it is to apply for asylum. TIme to make it harder. Make the asylum process harder will keep them out of the country. But you voiced opposition to that idea. Which, logically, means you are more inclined to let them in than I am.
