So just went to log into another board and as soon as I get to the page it says my IP address has been banned. Have no clue of any offenses I committed. Really weird. Anyone else ever have a situation like this?

Most common reason would be someone in your neighborhood was probably banned. Unless you pay for a static IP, everyone in your vicinity would broadcast the same common IP addresses from your internet provider. Had to be pretty bad to get banned by IP.

Maybe @rAMPage took over that site?
LMFAOOOO! ^^^^^

I already know what site I assume. I just use a different VPN address. This is one of the two reasons why I use a VPN on these kind of forums. Can people find you out with a IP ? Its possible but it has to be to the point of a real obsession, hatred and a lot of man power.

In the late 00s, there was a dude who pissed off a non hobbying forum. Everyone joined together and exposed that dude with his IP from a mod. Because of that the forum got shut down. Signed him up to the military, his father's scanned medical charts, bank cards and bunch of wild stuff. It was wild!

Which people? Your ISP (Spectrum, Verizon... ) certainly knows which of its IP addresses were assigned to which of its accounts but whether it will reveal that assignment is a question for a lawyer. I'd like to think a warrant would be required but personally I wouldn't hold my breath. The blocks of IP addresses assigned to providers is not a closely guarded secret. If you are using a cellphone info about the towers that you ping will put you in a neighborhood. You are never completely untraceable but your best bet is to use a VPN that is KNOWN not to log. I don't know if it is true but Mulvad says they don't log and - if you trust them - you can send cash so they can't trace you through your credit card.

Reread my post. It's not LE why I use a VPN on hobby sites.

Providers ain't the only people who are stalked. Wasn't too long ago a poster was "stalking" and inquiring information about another poster on this site at locations which is intrusive. It's one of the two reasons why I do walk my friend to the train after her work. Saw a comment about her a while back that I didn't like so since then I walk her to the train after work when possible. Never told her about the comment I saw tho.
