I was in Bangkok 2 years ago. If helpful, I stayed at the Well Hotel Bangkok on 10 Sukhumvit 20 for about $90/night. It was a nice hotel with a swimming pool, they didn't care when I brought girls back and when I did, the front desk held her ID and would call up when she left to make sure everything was ok. This obviously dramatically limits the risk you get scammed.
There was a nearby sports bar that now looks like it's going by the name Robin Hood that had a good beer selection and a few attractive freelancers waiting around for clients. There is also a small side street of Sukhumvit 20 with a few gogo bars, though I didn't go into any of them and can't vouch for them. It's a short walk to Soi Cowboy and also a blowjob bar called 7-Heaven if that's your preference.
To be honest, I think Hong Kong is better than Thailand for hobbying, though at a slightly higher price point.

To be honest, I looked into the indy scene of girls working the street near Nana Plaza and it was pretty grim. I like a sleazy fuck as much as the next depraved monger, but that was just completely unappealing.
There are some gogo bars near Nana Plaza that seemed fine. Most of the gogo bars seem a bit like amateur hour, full of guys who've never hobbies before, and you'd have to go through a layer of explaining to the girls that you aren't getting taken for a ride.
