3G Network shutting down in 2022

Hi All,

If you are like me and use a burner phone, this might impact you. (I use a flip phone basic phone with 3G)

AT&T is shutting down their 3G network on 02/22/2022. I think the other carriers are as well later in the year. Just a heads up in case you guys need to upgrade your burner phones.

My Alcatel flip2 supports LTE, so no problem, but I'm on VZW anyway and I believe they are shutting down 3G end of 2022.

Correct no impact to you since Tracfone uses VZ network (end of year shutdown) and also your burner has LTE like you said. Good thinking ahead.

AT&T is a nightmare. Throw your AT&T bricks into the East River, pronto. Worse than useless. Ever try to call their customer service? Joke.

Isn't it easier to use a burner app? there is Burner, Hushed, Google Voice etc...

I thought about this but I always thought having this hobby completely separate from my main phone is probably the safest route as there is no way someone can accidentally find out unless they find the burner phone (which looks like some old flip phone).

I can always say that's a super old flip phone from the past and I just keep it for memories sake. Never had issues before.

Whenever I think about this I think back to Walter White and his second phone. Posessing a second phone that you keep charged and 'around' is supicious.

Instead I log in and out of Google Voice (Delete App between uses too if super paranoid.) and use a VPN before logging in and using it.

Get a hobby phone, work phone, a personal phone. Swap the work and personal phone as needed.

i use a very old non flip tracfone and it has not been able to connect to the network since the end of Feb. now i have to go out and get a new phone

buy a cheap smartphone that has no service provider set up, download a free texting app. set up appointment at home and when you get to location use personal phone’s hotspot to connect your burner phone to internet so you can let PO you’ve arrived and get instructions. Once everything is settled turn off your hotspot.
