My fears and paranoia are based on how poorly the government is handling this in my opinion. The entirety of the defense is "wash your hands, sneeze into your sleeve" so basically the same way we attack the common cold... a virus so common it literally has common in the title. That's how we're defending against a disease that is stopping international travel and shutting down schools.

My concern is less the virus and more how people will react to the virus and I'm seeing it already (poorly)
  1. Oh it's not serious the people who died were old - so I guess that means it's okay they died.
  2. Less talk about what to do if you get it, more talk about how to treat others if they show symptoms (we're straight up telling people to treat them like they have the plague).
  3. Being told if you have it you will need to be quarantined, but no talk about what that actually means, how to prepare, what if you live with someone who is not sick, etc. etc. etc.
  4. No long term plan on what to do if school or place of work is shut down.
  5. No long term plan on what to do if your child's school is shut down and you need to get daycare while you're at work.
Information breeds confidence, silence breeds fear, and while the whole rest of the world is shutting down country by country the only thing being said in the US is

"IT IS DEFINATELY COMING!! WE CAN'T STOP IT!! IT WILL BE BAD!!! But hey don't worry you as an individual worry about it, I'm sure you'll be fine.
You are one of the handful paying attention with eyes open and awakened to the Matrix. Unfortunately most others will just live day to day and then panic once the sirens go off.

I went to a latina/asian spa on staten island and the mamasan actually told one of the girls that manages the front desk that she can't come for two weeks because the girl is dating a guy who just came back from China. The girl got mad at the mamasan and said she needs to make money but the mamasan said everyone needs to stay healthy 1st.

The mamasan is only allowing clients to see latina girls and is not allowing any Asian girls to provide unless they are American based Koreans or Japanese, no Chinese at all. I actually appreciate her level of caution and awareness.

Also, the mamasan said that the virus is very much an issue and that scores of people are getting sick in China. Everything there is on lock down. Certainly propaganda exsists but being mindful/cautious yet avoiding panic seems like a good approach to take.

This conversation also highlighted to me that some of the girls working at AMPs dont care about the risks or if we catch the virus.
You mean they don't care about saving face. You should already assume from the get go they could give two fucks about a monger except his Benjamins. Remember these are the same Women that lie and say "No problem honey" when you ask about a recent bust that happened yesterday. They have no idea what legal and financial ramifications are for the clients and couldn't care less even if they found out. Also same girls that will give BBFS and say "Only you honey" for 100 guys...

They haven't thought ahead though about being on Eyewitness News for being the vector into NYC. I bet they won't like that. But these Women are not thinking about tomorrow. Only today.

The paranoia I get. That's basic survival instinct. But to accuse someone of not getting the "basic concept" when they themselves was the one that didn't, is another level entirely. Paranoia based on falsehoods and misunderstandings is just plain and simple prejudice.
I did not accuse anyone of not getting the basic. I simply pointed out they did not GET the basic concept. Not an accusation....but a fact. I cant dumb it down any more for those who dont understand

Not how I read it:
Again. Read my post. You still fail to grasp the basic concept. Throughout history, the most simple minds have failed to grasp basic concepts. I grasp the fact you continue that intrinsic fact in 2020.

The first death due to Corona Virus has been reported in Washington State..what is worrisome is this person has no known contact from overseas..also California has two people confirmed with the Virus who did not travel and no contact from out of the country....according to the CDC it is inevitable that we will have clusters of outbreaks...for now we in the east coast are okay..but I expect that to change....and there was a girl in Wuhan who did not show symptoms for 30 days..and she was carrying the Virus and her whole family was infected...so this Virus is unpredictable...pretty much every continent except Antarctica has a infected person

I agree...unfortunately when you have an ignorant person as president who said..It will disappear or the spring or summer will kill it...and who contradicted the CDC...and Rush Limbaugh telling people this a weaponized hoax by the Democrats against Trump...then we as a country will pay the price...this only the beginning...we are not prepared for a pandemic as a country

Have you tried reading any of the basic CDC links inserted above?

I've read the entire CDC section on the virus. And YES, washing hands really does make a difference for anything that spreads through surface contact. COVID-19 is the latest incarnation of a coronavirus. This is not entirely new, so guessing what to do is not necessary in the presence of facts.

It requires the same preventive protocol as when the Swine flu hit us. I dealt with it in my office and household without catching it myself. The biggest change for most people is learning not to touch your face unless you have completely disinfected your hands.

Don't discount simple safety steps because they are simple. Next time you're in the men's room, ask yourself if everyone is spending 20 seconds washing their hands with soap at the sink. Remember that observation when you touch the door handle, or any door and you'll see why the CDC keeps reminding people about the basics.

And while it NOT okay for older people to die from this, anyone older or immunocompromised needs to be aware that they need treatment sooner to avoid death.

As for a plan, 80 treatments are in trials right now. We need to do the basics for a month to contain the spread so they have enough time to make a couple treatments available to the public.

Information is power, but you have to do the reading and not rely on a news channel to do it for you.

Good info..what is of concern is that we don't have enough tests kits... health experts are saying we should be testing thousands per day..In Washington State confirm death of person
in nursing home and California to start..

We need more test kits for sure. Fortunately, the spread has been slow, so the kits are more a tool of preventing further spread of the virus.

That first US death needs to be understood. We need to know the circumstances of the death. Did the person have prior health issues? Did they arrive to the hospital with pneumonia or another chronic condition?

The two cases where they can't find the COVID-19 link is more troubling, because the link that spread the virus is unknown.

Oh cool it's that simple, all we need to do is get everyone to wash their hands, while we're at it, let's get everyone to eat their vegetables too.

By your own statements everyone is NOT washing their hands, so the virus WILL spread, everyone knows it will spread and there is no plan on what will be done AS IT SPREADS!

And by 'what will be done' I don't mean "find a cure" (although you know, do that). I mean how do we keep society functioning on both a macro but more importantly on a micro level until everything is back to normal.

I can do everything I can to make sure I don't get it, but what am I suppose to do if everyone in my office get's it. Even if I am fine, the office might shut down. Not everyone is paid a monthly salary some people are paid hourly and only hours that they actually work (no holidays, no sick leave) if the office is closed many people don't get paid, what's the plan to deal with that?

What if schools close? Are parents suppose to stay home with their children? Will they be compensated? Will their jobs be protected? Etc. Etc. Etc. What's the plan to deal with that?

If travel is already shutting down, that means it is likely more travel will either shut down or at least be delayed as it spreads, what does that mean for commerce? Especially food, if we see even a small delay in food arrivals it will be devastating. What's the plan to deal with that?

And there are a million other little things we take for granted but our society would cease to function as we know it if there is just a small temporary change and no plan on how to deal with it.

Again my concern is less about the actual virus, and more about how this will effect us socially and economically, the CDC does not have any answers on that because that's not their job.

If things start shutting down it will have a domino effect, and right now the answer is "Well we have no plan to make sure things don't shut down, and if they do shut down we have no plan on how to stop the domino effect, but hey spring is coming, we're sure everything will be fine."

Unfortunately, Spring my not solve the problem with this virus. Unlike seasonal flu, this one seems not to be as affected by warming weather. Maybe Summer?

The gov't is saying that this virus will most likely not kill you. Only 2% die vs. .1% for regular flu. CDC official says no need to wear a mask :) They are also saying don't go to the hospital unless necessary. Stay home if you are sick.
How do people know if they have it?
The news is saying that this virus in Washington state has prob been there for 6 months. A postal worker has it in Washington state.

The lethality rate has been discussed many time. At 2%, it's 20 times more likely to kill you than the flu. But we have medication to help get rid of it. But you should wear a mask. This one travels via moisture droplets, and a mask will stop it from entering your system.

Only when they test after you develop symptoms.

Link please. I find this hard to believe, since that means he's also had 6 months to pass it to someone.
