They let me go, but it was a close call. One thing I learned from it was to only say I was there for a massage. I must have repeated it ten times to the cops and admitted nothing else. They had moved the masseuse to another room and told me if she did not say exactly what I said, they'd arrest me. From what I understood, she told them she did not understand English well and would not say anything. Overall, not a good scene, but it happened. It was months until I started going to AMPs again.
Damn. And 99% of the time I am only at these places for a massage because I have back pain.

Just going to pause and give this one long shudder. Glad you and the masseuse both kept your wits about you.

At the Korean AMPs I've visited, it's been the norm for years that you ring the bell and get buzzed in to enter the place at all, and I think there is either a camera or a peephole so they can check you out. I don't know if things will change in some of the Chinese places, where you can walk right into the foyer and make your initial arrangements and payment at the front desk. (This is around Chicago.)

The limitations of my budget and schedule, plus over the last year concerns about COVID-19, have been the things that limit my visits. I think the chances of getting caught up in an Atlanta-like situation are remote -- about as remote as if I were getting lunch at a Chinese restaurant. If anything, I kind of feel like I should support my local Asian establishments, to the extent I can, and show some extra love to the ladies who make my life so much happier.

I’ll say one thing about the experience: it builds character.

The other thing the cops did was take my wallet, phone, and keys for a while. And they said a few times to me that they were going to call my wife from my cell phone. Just to let her know that I was found at an AMP, and that I was okay.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression this guy in Atlanta frequented spas, so most of these precautions would be pointless if a " regular " becomes unhinged
