Where is the best spot to drive from NJ into NYC, park, have fun, grab a bite and circle back to NJ with as little friction as possible?

Back and forth (or, up and down, in and out) in under 3-hours.

It's most important to make sure you are not hitting tunnel traffic at peak hours. This is a major factor, I'd even consider parking in Jersey and taking the PATH train in to guarantee not having traffic mess up your plans.
Nice. Where to where?

Park in Jersey City and either take the PATH train from WTC or to 34th Street (two different lines) and transferring to subway. It really depends on where your destination will be. You can drive in but parking in Manhattan can be a significant cost. Time savings guarantee is worth taking the PATH.

34th seems like a good path to Cherry spa. If it were so damn inconsistent.

Thanks guys who have probably done this too many times. :)

From 34th (32 street) PATH exit, youre 10 min or less walking distance to:
cream dream spa 29th/6th
38mate spa 38th st/7th ave
Bubbles girls on 28th /park
nurugirls on 29th/5ave
redrose spa 14th /8thave
These are what you would call "consistent" and a sure thing.

Yeah, Red Rose from there is probably closer to 20+ minutes on foot, but you are allowed to hop on the subway down to 14th St. But adding extra modes of transportation also adds extra possible delays. Justice Kavanaugh is correct to mention WSD, a straight line up Broadway from Herald Square. Add DDY if the subway or a 15 minute walk is allowed.

Which day of the week. Def possible even after 5PM but you need to be super efficient and know where to park etc.

You didn't say NJ where so I am going to assume you are probably 30 min away from Manhattan driving wise so I would NOT Recommend PARK and RIDE into NYC. And it's not about the cost, if you do the math, it's gonna be a wash for driving vs. train but you have your sanity.

These days, driving into NYC -- and you should validate yourself. If you are right across the River from Hoboken or Fort Lee. It takes 20 minutes to get into the city. The traffic is like nothing. when I need to go into the CITY, I would drive maybe 40 min total, 20 min to either Weehawken or 20 min to Holland.

Then the rest of the 20min is literally going to Chinatown (or Holland) or Midtown 30th thru 58st WEST side. If you want to get to EAST SIDE for Some of other spots like R&R then it's maybe another 5-10 minutes due to more cross town traffic.

If you were to take trains, Hoboken train to Manhattan takes 20 minutes or so, then you have to WALK your ass and WALK BACK to train and WAIT for the train then ride BACK TO NJ then get to your car then DRIVE home. Fuck that shit...

I rather get in my car and not have to walk and stand on the train only to take a long ass time to get home after getting to my car to drive.

Cost: it's $15 to drive thru tunnel or bridges. I ALWAYS time it so I am at the place where I want to go by 5:50PM or close to 6PM because most parking spots open up at 6PM. There are some commercial only to 7PM but there will be 6PM free spots or I would pay at 36th street $5 for an hour (cuz I only do 30 min sessions most of the time. If you're going to say some place near 29th and Park/Lexington, all spots open at 6PM so I literally would sit in my car for a minute until 6PM then it's free parking.

It's summer. It's gonna be hot as fuck, I can enjoy the AC and be faster going INTO the CITY and faster coming out of the CITY.

There are exceptions. Avoid Friday afternoon as it's always a cluster fuck.

And yes, I drive thru tunnels even if it's 5PM, 5:30PM. 5:40PM. It's cake, just short traffic and I'm in the city and traffic is usually light.

I've done many times, go in, appointment ready at 6:15pm. if I go in earlier, there are also parking spots that are 9AM-7PM then I would just pay it to 7PM then I can stay longer for free like getting a meal after I ate the girl.

Weekend, same thing except you Sunday is free parking everywhere and Sat could be busiest with tourists. Otherwise, it's always driving as it gives me most flexibility. Imagine one place you have to walk and you need to walk again. I just hop in my car. And if I need to go someplace far to eat, I'm in my car.

Anyway, if you are 20-30min away from the tunnels, just drive in and time it. Just start doing some google routes around 4:30 or 5PM to gauge traffic time. I would never take the train cuz that's just takes longer and not comfortable in the heat.

Driving and parking in the city is not hard but takes some practices to know where to go and how to get around quickly. There are apps such as spotangels to give you an idea what the parking rule/meter is near by. If you must park at a garage cuz you're an amateur NYC driver .... :) then you can use SpotHero to get some discounts.

continued from previous post since I didn't edit fast enough - My ezpass bill is easily 300 a month.... but I don't care. I find it easier and much much more comfortable than being on the train with no seat, sweating dirty motherfuckers next to me coughing. If you take 3 trains/bus total each way you're already paying $18 bucks each round-trip anyway. In the scheme of things, it's just more convenient for me and I can multi-task better like being on the phone for work or do some safe texting...

mayfair2 makes some very compelling arguments, and also consider that if you're taking PATH train you would still need to park your car someplace near the PATH station (probably a garage if you want to be safe) so you need to budget the time/cost for that as well.

Driving through the tunnel round trip, negotiating city traffic and looking for parking all sound like a nightmare to me: a lot of variables to make you late for an appointment. I have a car in the city, but I avoid driving in midtown if I can.
Whereas parking near the PATH in Jersey is probably easy, and a direct ride to Herald Square, minutes to a dozen great amps?
Seems like a no-brainer.
But unlike Mayfair, I’m a pessimist about parking in Manhattan.

Lol. I am a pro. I used parking garage probably twice in 5 years. Always street parking free or short meter.

it maybe seem daunting to drive and park in nyc. parking near train takes a lot of time and can cost $ too.

To clarify, I much prefer driving in for the reasons stated above.

It does largely depend on where in NJ the OP is coming from, but I was being cognizant of his strict time constraints, thus my recommendation for public transit. If I am driving, I much prefer non rush hour commute times.

I wouldn’t make an appointment prior to arriving in the city. Yes - 30 mins away. My jaunts to the city for business or pleasure have rarely been a hassle at the smart time of day.

My original question was more about the full loop; don’t worry about my parking acumen, after 25 years in the city, I think I know what to do. Consider I’m driving; I’m more interested in another person’s successful loop; which amp on which path is the most fun for a hit + run.
